Whats the score with the epicormic coming out of thee nicks in the bark? were they introduced deliberately? what sort of percentage took?

As I understand it Tom, Ted Green, Caroline Davis & Migel Mari wounded this particular tree with an axe, creating the incisions on a previous visit to the site.

 

The resulting sprouts where evident on approximately 50% of the wounds, with 80% of these still alive.

 

Not entirely sure if they are epicormic dormant buds stimulated by & taking advantage of an easy escape through the bark or just adventitious buds created off the callous.

Interesting experiment nonetheless, bring on the spikes !

 

 

Appreciate all the positive comments & glad to have had the chance to share the images of the trip here at AT, most of you know the cyber me & will realise this is what ticks my boxes. It really is an inspiring part of the world, with all it's culture, politics, history, landscape, flora & fauna, which I would highly recommend to anybody to go visit, if you haven't already.

I took a pretty slow train journey down, but it's literally on our doorstep if you fly.

 

Here's some of the amazing fauna of the area, including Griffin vultures, Salamandas & Rock lizards, haven't got time to edit through all the shots I've got ......

Have tried the spike approach at different times with not much success tbh, but not as yet on a range of species/bark types.

Shots from journey down on the TGV,

Rural snap shots of superstition & fertility.

Remnants of a saw having been crushed on a fell.

A disgruntled hunter having been disturbed by tree geeks.

The mouthwatering delights of a whole roasted lamb that was springing about in front of us the evening before.

The ripped side wall of the 4x4 that needed replacing.

& a flavour of the regions municipalities & politics.

 

And with that Senora & Senors, I will bore you no more & bid you fine AGUR

 

..............the kettles boiling !

Thanks for pointing this one out fella, simply awsome and i fully appreciate its point and purpose. I will no longer wonder such silly things again, i thought it was all a bit silly when I first read about it, thought it was a bit of an excuse for a jolly. How wrong was I.

just a Sony cybershot DSC-50, boy would a like a real camera.

that caterpillar is just mental, and as for the bore us no more anyone that finds a thread of this caliber boring wants a their head testing and b to find an alternative line of work! IMO
