A friend of mine uses old pallet wood in his art work and he is always after Indian sandstone crates he said they are made with types of Jungle wood, rassak salwood , kapur wood, red marranty wood.

The latter has a pungent smell when cut, although I think it's darker grain. I can't seem to find a lot online about it for some reason.

probably because you are spelling it wrong.

 

try looking for meranti.

 

 

there are lots of jungle woods that are not used for main timber export but are used locally for pallet manufacture so it may be that this timber never gets identified.

Could possibly be Ramin

 

Popped into my head when doing the washing up. Not sure if it should pop straight out again haha
