Nope, i have 2 seperate karabiners and 2 seperate prussics so im always attached to the tree somehow. Is this not how it should be done?

Thats what I meant . You are still attached what ever method you choose . Not just standing on a branch a la free climbing .

So your climbing on both ends of your rope then.

Thats a perfectly acceptable way to climb, although very basic it does have some advantages and its best to learn the basics first.

Once your more confident in the tree you can start playing around with configurations and friction devices but for now learning the basics and getting your confidence up is more important.

Look on youtube for some good tutorials on tree climbing.

As suggested above the climbing arborist is very good

Im in a similar position, ive passed my cs38 and im just starting to get my climbing kit together. However by the time ive done that i will not have climbed for about 6 months. I was confident on my course but when i go to climb again i wonder if ill be a nervous wreak or will it all come back to me and ill be up and down in no time.

When you're tied in, standing on a branch, about to throw the tail end of your rope up, don't.  Just have a wobble about on the branch, maybe swing off it.  Learn to trust your equipment.

Don't worry mate, I had the same thing after I finished college. The key is finding a company that will let you do odd little climbs here and there until your experience is built up. You'll also find you've retained your climbing knowledge from college. Climb in your spare time on weekends, I'm sure there's someone experienced in your area who would do recreational climbs with you.
