You don't need a reed valve to squirt fuel into the crankcase, it just prevents  air being pushed out the carb as the piston comes down before the intake port has closed twixt carb and crankcase. It means the inlet can open a bit earlier.

I know that owning a Stihl 009 and a couple of vintage McCullochs, I was being tongue in cheek comparing the latest technology with the old vintage bangers but the same advantages!

Obviously a bit too subtle.
