Not sure this makes sense, when you look at the still standing trunk you can see there's been some very recent impact, and the tyres tracks leading to it probably explains the failure, that and the rot of course.

 

(or do you mean you didn't drive into it?)

I reckon those marks are from the removal of large limbs. There is also older damage, probable from limb failures.

 

The tree is shot, but rather than remove it, weight was removed from the road side to ensure future failure would go the other way, it worked.                      Maybe???

if I had driven into it my motor would be a right mess it had lost a few limbs over the years
