ocean polyester

i have recently been experimenting with ocean polyester on my VT does anyone else find it to stif to tie properly with. and also i swear its burning my rope up twice as fast

put it in the bin mate. I did. there are better hitchcords out there.

I found that it does supple up after abit but it is very stiff to begin with, I think it is very heat resistant so if would burn out your rope quicker if decending fast.

I love ocean poly i think its great even 10mm which is my favourite on 11mm line tied with a knute very smooth, using 8 at the moment. i'll get a good couple of weeks out of a hitch with this stuff where as normal poly i could destroy in a few days.

 

When you buy the pre spliced stuff its far more supple i heard that this would also be availible on the reel, it doesn't seem so yet.

is it a normal double braid splice? its ages since ive had OP, i didnt like the 10mm when i had it but the 8mm seems more supple.

Got me hands on some Armor Pruss and used the first piece for the best part of 6 months. second has been going for about 4 months and still going strong. Just pop it in the wash. I picked up some eye - eye spliced AP from DrewB and about 6 metres of cord. I can see that me lasting into my 40's.

 

Marc, how do you manage to destroy OP in such a short time and have you tried the AP?

I like OP, no probs at all, (8mm).

Months? well i can maybe get a month but i don't climb all the time if i did every day then i'd only expect 2 weeks. What i find is half the fibres may be fireproof/heat resistant but fast decents/ general use will cause the fibre to go brittle, so whilst the cord is still intact i can with my finger nails start to break down the fibres so i just ditch it plus i like the consistency of a clean good hitch. The last 2 years i've bought 20 odd meters so on average i'm getting a month .

 

I tried beeline which is all heat proof fibres but found it glazed to easily and wasn't consistent for me.

 

I use a pulley saver this makes a difference over the old ring saver i had.
