I'm sure it is, but what happens when the police, military, prison service etc become underfunded to the point where they cannot function (don't go there![emoji15]). Social meltdown and the demise of our great country.

It's a good idea though.

You've just described my interpretation of where the country is now...

It would take a more tolerant global society to make it work, and we'll only achieve one of them when people stop killing each other.

Nice to dream of Utopia. I'm well aware it's a dream.

It does have some merit as a concept...

I'm not sure the working classes would wish to allocate their hard earned to the (voluntary) non working classes for example...

It's a bit like socialism really, some merit in theory, but what happens when you run out of other people's money to spend...?

That's assuming that the money runs out. A thriving, technology led economy in a society that puts emphasis on education need not run out of money.

Or they could just sell things to the lowest bidder to generate a quick buck. :001_smile:

IMHO, sadly there is a fair chunk of society in both camps that are not fit to make those decisions. That's surely why we have politicians in the first place? Incoming.....

Agreed. Perhaps, giving people the option of deciding where a proportion of their taxes go and letting elected politicians decide the where the rest went could be a short term solution.

Just until the population can be trusted to manage their own finances....
