hi all.

the time has come for the ranger to go and I am on the look out for the new truck.

I have narrowed it down to either a 65 plate d-max or a 14 plate hilux. both basic spec models with a canopy.

main use is towing a tipper trailer for delivering logs and shooting/dog walking.

was hoping those of you that have used either of these trucks could give me any pros and cons and if you had your time again would you get something different.

all opinions welcomed.

many thanks

I used to drive a base model 65 plate d-max in my old job every day towing a tracked chipper. It was brilliant on the road, would sit comfortably on the motorway. However the minute you went off road or even tried to reverse up a drive it was crap, absolutely no low down grunt at all and far to highly geared IMO. Apparently the automatic is better, never driven one though so can't comment.

I now have a 63 plate hilux, not quite as good at cruising as no 6th gear ( although not bad, don't get me wrong) and far, far better off road etc. I'd go for the Hilux any day
