Ok survey completed, why hasn't hse or AA thought that if you had a anti kickback tip guard you would be in danger of forward leaning timber doing a "widow maker" and killing the climber?

Exactly. If your needing to do a dog-tooth whilst climbing you'd need to call up a different saw. A lot of people wouldn't bother and just do a standard felling cut increasing the risk of an accident.

That's not an arguement, also a dog tooth cut in the tree is pretty rare, the diameter of the timber you will be cutting with a top handle saw and the ability to tackle that type of scenario in many other reliable ways other than a dog tooth.

Again saying a lot of people are just to lazy to carry out the job safely is my concern how do we improve that? Other than simply engineering out laziness which as you rightly point out will probably in all likelihood not prevent future accidents.

This exactly why we're consulting with industry coz you know better than anyone what would work and what wouldn't...including what just wouldn't be accepted.

The chaps Father, as an engineer, is proposing the tip guard option not hence that's why it features strongly.

We're listening to what you're saying and your thinking...thank you :thumbup1:
