New rope

I have always used Yale blaze and i'm now in need of a new rope and fancied a change. Could anyone recommend another rope that's similar diameter and is good to use with a prussik or hitchclimber set up?

I have seen the yale blue tongue and know a lot of people who use it with the zigzag so was going to have a go on that. I like a softer rope if you get what i mean...

Blaze is true 11mm, pretty thin stuff. Most of the 11.5-7mm stuff feels a lot thicker than the half mil difference.

I really like Velocity. It's technically 11.3 but feels more like 11. Very soft and incredibly light. Runs beautifully with 8mm cord (armour Prus is a good one) on a hitch climber or wrench.

Thanks for the reply, I do like 11mm rope I just like the lightness and feel of a smaller rope. I might give the velocity a go, but I always found Samson ropes a bit harsh on the hands?

No harsher than blaze. Blaze goes like wire when taut!

I bought some 11.5mm Tachyon, and while it's a good rope, and easier on the hands, it feels a lot thicker than its supposed .2mm difference.

I use the 11.5 mm tachyon with zigzag..its a decent rope.

Havent used a hitch on it though...dunno if i could tie a hitch now its been so long...lol

Never liked tachyon, don't know why used it for a while then found blaze and just found it nicer to use

Donaghy Cougar CE Blue 11,7mm is what I use.

i use the non ce marked stuff find its nice, very static which makes srt assents easier , nice enough on the hands and a really bright colour in the tree.

seems to work well with the lockjack too.

Samson Velocity would offer similar rope diameter and doesn't fluff up half as bad as Blaze.

Yale Blue Tongue is 11.7mm and feels a lot fatter than Velocity / Blaze, so you may not like it immediately, but it is a good all-round rope.

The original non-CE Donaghy's stuff had a nominal diameter of 11.7mm, but feels much thinner than that. Not sure how the new Cougar feels in the hand.

If you're happy and used to the Blaze why not stick with it?

Because Velocity is so much nicer!
