Maybe a suspension bush gone on that side so you have metal on metal when reversing

Id be saying handbrake not releasing, potentially a leaking transfer box seal onto the drum.

Good call that happened on mine when i over adjusted the handbrake. Happened when going slow in reverse.

Didn't have a chance to jack it up yet, missus has been driving it with no issues, back Friday afternoon so further investigation then!

Are you sure "you" are releasing the handbrake to the very last click

Mine started doing this last autumn. Particularly big jolt if I was still rolling back when I pressed the clutch. Drove fine forwards, except I couldn't change down into 2nd. New gearbox was the answer for me. Another cheap trip to the garage!
