Have a 6t splitter, domestic use, went to use it today and motor just hums, doesn't spin.

Capacitor looks fine, not sure how to test this though.

I have been using it on longish, bog standard ext. lead[emoji15]

Any thoughts?

when the capacitor in mine went it was quite obvious, but the guy I got the new one off said they don't always show visible signs, no idea how to test it but some of the more knowledgeable members might. he advised I use a heavy duty lead and fully unroll it.

Before you start messing with the cap can you take off the fan cowl or poke a screwdriver through it and spin the motor by hand?

Have you got a test meter?

Mine showed similar signs after being left outside but covered. Cleared all the hyd oilways, checked elecs only to find there'd been ingress of rainwater into the motor which corroded the steel/ally. £60 for new motor & alls well. Good luck as theres little to go wrong.

  • 3 weeks later...

Emailed company about problem, they said "box it up, we'll get it picked up".

No prob!

They emailed next day saying "we see where you live, can you send pics of splitter instead", which I did do.

Emailed again next and said " if you can just confirm we have your correct address we will send out a new splitter today"!

Which they did do, arrived a couple of days later, now that is service I'd say!!

Not sure why they wanted the pics though? They had my proof of purchase, not complaining mind.
