Only small problem with sodium chlorate is that it can make stumps extremely flammable.

On the same theme, perhaps fertiliser and diesel would do the trick!

 

Fertiliser (high in nitrogen) and diesel makes explosive! Could be interesting.

 

I score inside the bark line with a saw, perhaps 10mm deep, then just put it in the groove, liberally, dry.

 

If rain is forecast. stick a bucket, plant pot or a pre-cut ring of wood from the stump on it to stop it washing off.

Ammonium sulphamate is definitely banned, and as such it is an offence to use/store/sell/import it after May 2008.

 

With regard to some of the other comments in this forum, it is also an offence to use any substance not approved as a pesticide by the PSD for the purposes of killing stumps etc. As such, salt is not an approved pesticide, nor chain oil, or any other of grandma's old recipes.

 

For the record, ammonium sulphamate is very toxic to wild birds.

I think you mean herbicide, not pesticide.

 

I'd recomend that you read 'Silent Spring' by Rachel Carson (from memory) published in about 1960. You might decide to get of your high horse with regard to whats approved or not, and the commendable, IMO use of salt as a stumpicide by members of this forum.
