What a load of utterly disjointed crock.

Do you really think manufacturing abroad benefits the people in the American factories?.

Trump putting a tariff of a cheaply made product makes it more expensive than manufacturing at home, so manufacturers like deere/ford etc will return manufacturing to the factories they closed down to save a few bucks.

Do you think any of that any of Trump's 'tarrifs' will benefit the UK?

If so, why?

Don't think they'll have much impact negatively on the UK. We're a key strategic partner especially as most of the US air force is built here via BAE for example.

If you want to argue food, well yes unless it's the same standard.

The EU however is very protectionist yet want to milk the USA for defense, same with Canada, put in more % and Donald will say fair enough as wasn't it like 75% of NATO funding?.

So am I reading this right, manufacturing abroad doesn't benefit the American people unless it is manufactured abroad in the UK? How does that happen?

I'm guessing you've not worked in the defence sector as it's an industry that forbids outsourced manufacturing to non NATO countries on national security grounds.

The UK is renowned for it's defence manufacturers, we make a LOT from fighterjets/radios/sonar/submarines/electronics and missiles etc.

We also were the only place they could buy a certain plastic explosive from Tiverton or wherever in the west country for many years

This is where a confusion in tariffs happens. Manufacturers don't and often can't drop their prices, what they sell a product for out of the factory door won't change, their profit magin will be the same. Add a tariff in and the purchaser simply pays more. Deer for example will still be profitable. If you are talking the likes of large agricultural machinery there isn't a lot of choice, got to buy Deer really.

Same with a lot of foods, the US don't produce the quantities required... there will be imports, no choice, the prices rise on imports. Home grown manufacturers see, say Mexican tomatoes prices rise 25%... and still get bought...guess what they are going to do? cannot legislate old fashioned greed and price rises.

That's not my point, aware of restrictions of who can manufacture what and were.

Point being why are you accepting potential tariffs on Mexican goods (I know they've been dropped, but you understand the example), and yet don't appear to be acepting tariffs on UK manufactured goods... surely that tool is to get US manufacturing industry manufacturing more? It is either going to work... for all sectors...or it is not.

What it will do is make them rethink their plans.

Other companies say Kubota are already overtaking them and building more in the USA.

As right to repair has turned a lot of customers away from Deere.
