I had a woman recently tell me that the job is really big so I should price it really 'keenly' to get it.

I asked her why I should work for her, four days with a team of five, for tiny profit when I could work for other people and make good profit as I'm neck deep in work.

She looked aghast so I walked off.

I think social media has enhanced public perception that the consumer is king, that businesses are at the beck and call of the man with the money. Some of the demands of customers are becoming unbelievable because some believe that we're only here for their benefit and we can't survive without their £100 job.

I was in the mean streets of suburban Kings Lynn tonight pricing up a simple remove and grind out a poxy little Connie hedge. I priced normally and by the way the householder reacted you'd think I was talking about a defence budget .

I got the usual "well you're the first firm we've asked to quote, we'll get back to you''

Some hope, another hour and a half out of my life.

The other old favourite is "so and so will do it for x price, but we would prefer you to do it if you can match it" stock response is if so and so thinks they can do it for x price, good luck to them 😁

I would just say this is my price but if you come back with another job in the future we will give you 10% off the big job you have in the future.
