  1. Past hour
  2. Been asked to supply logs for milling into boat props. They asked me if treated Spruce would suffice instead of Oak or Redwood but I'm sceptical. I've assumed dry dock obviously, quayside.. Any ideas? Got plenty of mac and pine in stock.
  3. yes, my vitara can tow 1.2 tonnes with overrun brakes but because you should not tow an unbraked trailer that is more than half the unladen weight of the tow car. So an unbraked chipper of 750kg is too much.
  4. as was mine, regular servicing, and let it warm up before any extreme use, most problems are caused by some cowboy with a programme of ebay and just massive overfueling. a well respected knowledgeable company can make reasonable improvements without any of the aforementioned problems.
  5. Nothing like being happy in your life . 🙂
  6. Td5 definitely needs something, not powerful enough in standard form.
  7. Mine was well maintained all its life. Just it was even better after the remap.
  8. Thanks Steven it happens that the chicken burner got up first this morning and relit the stove so I didn’t get the chance to poke about. I realise now that I’ve put a few cheese wrapping papers in - they’re apparently laminated plastic and paper so you’re supposed to rip them apart. But surely they’d all burn up rather than solidify and become heat resistant? Apart from that nothing weird goes in. I’ll send it to forensics …
  9. It can do all manner of shite to the engine, from losing compression ,to pulling manifold studs out, to tips of injectors , turbos seizing etc . A good maintained td5 wouldn't need maping.
  10. Had my TD5 Disco remapped and never had any problems. Had about 75-80 thousand miles on it when remapped. Did a lot of heavy towing with it. Mind you I am an old codger and drive like one, so never thrashed it.
  11. been ok for the last 81/2 years, over ten counting the previous owner.
  12. Worse thing you can do to a td5, good way to shaggy the engine.
  13. Plated to 1.6 towing capacity
  14. td5 can be remapped or chipped for a power increase, mine goes well, even on 35,s and on original transfer case.

im running a 2015 dodge ram. took it to 110mph once on private land , scared the hell out of me lol. not the right vehicles for higher speed! nowadays im getting old so slow is fine! Though the commercials are manual and im getting used to a auto. as said getting old!
  17. if they are as light as my old vitara they can only manage 500kg unbraked,
  18. Well each morning recently its rain, didnt think we'd have a pandemic but it happend .
  19. Depends, to be honest I find it crude compared to.my defender , but they are remarkably comfy , can go fast ... I mean ive had 80 out of ours, but also id say they are good for going up on motorway as well. Td5 and the the fore runners to it are only good for 70 top whack unless u change transferbox and then there shit for towing .
  20. aye Stubby, 70odd years of waking up in the morning,, and not regretted a single feckin' one of 'em.
  21. Looks like it was pruned very heavily about 4yrs back and sent up a load of growth then has not being touched since. Id thin out that growth back to the same prune points and then also shorten some of the the longer ones. Also it a bit all on top and bare at the sides so leave some stuff to full out the sides

yes i read about the tow limit but recommendations is more like 900kg for safety. But all the other things sound good to me coming from a large american doublecab Though it does have every mod con going where as the jimney barely has a radio thats from this century from the pictures ive seen!
  23. Unfortunately he is right, it is a slow painful death, I do remember going to a local hospital with a regular cough for a chest x-ray and the people to the left and right of me were late thirties to early 50s. I was only 19 at the time , but does make you think . And regarding suicide ive a dim view on it mainly due to my history and also the people left behind like children. The only good thing about the big C is you have time to say good bye. That said I had a freind who found a cancenogenic lump on his chest ,I did the usual shit of reassurance that things would be fine .... next day he died of a massive seizure. No one knows of whats around the corner.
  24. Yes to all of the above, remove dead or crossing branches plus do the reduction over a few years. The only other thing is have a mind towards making it easier to pick the apples and bring the fruit down to safe ladder height. Pruning apple trees is pretty personal. As well as the pruning described above, I'd maybe just cut back one or two of the big trunks per year. I'm on year three of doing exactly this to two Bramleys apple trees. The trees have survived, yes fruiting has reduced because you don't get apples on new growth, but I don't mind that.
  25. I own a jimny and a defender, I take out the jimny because its capable , easy to park ,and the new ones dont have back seats so quite a bit of space in there, plus also it won't get stolen , spaces aren't expensive nore is road tax. Complete opposite for a decent defender, spares are costly , it probably will get stolen etc . Jimny can tow 1.6tons legally .not tried ours yet. Equally jimny can get out of a tight spot and spins on a sixpence , great for narrow drives .
  26. That piece looks like a fairly consistent curve to it, if the chimney has been lined recently too large to be a typical 6" liner. I am assuming you have a baffle plate in the stove so unless you found it above the plate, it is not a chimney part. Never seen chicken bones do that... I guess the rest of your fuels are regular things, nothing like plastics or whatever. Yes let us know what you see when you look inside, a curious one.
