Lawson cypress top out?

Hi, we have just moved to a new property which has 23 trees with TPO, we have come from small garden so no experience with them. Visit from tree surgeon says either remove or take 4 meters off the 20 Lawson Cypress trees as they are very small girth trunks, very spindly and some have U shape trunks. I have tried to read up on them and everything says that it won’t cause them to strengthen. Before I apply for permission, would value opinions?   Also, any ideas what causes this on hedge

Forestry Winching Training

Could anyone please direct me to some useful reading on winching techniques and training.  I'm looking to purchase a slightly older double drum winch to extract wind blows from around the estate which came down during the winter for chipping my own biomass.  (Valtra with Jake and crane, Heizohack, forwarding trailer).  I have a pretty good idea of where its at for my low output needs but would like a little theoretical night time reading.   Thanks in advance

Tree surgeon waste for zoo animals

I don't know if this post is allowed, but I am hoping to reach out to local tree surgeons in London. Our animals at London Zoo goes through a lot of browse (a zoo term for leafy branches) all year round. It is getting harder and harder to obtain good quality material and logistics are always a challenge. I know that tree surgeons always have challenges getting rid of their waste. If you are interested in collaborating, perhaps we can help each other out? Due to a complex mix of plant t

STOLEN MS462

I’m a 21 tree surgeon based in north wales, and was doing perimeter clearance on a Scottish power substation in Kirby on the 29/5/25. My saw was stolen in the time of the team unloading kit and looking at the job no more than 70 meters away. The saw was purchased this January so looks fairy new and has the initial HGJ on both the handle and top casing. Just thought I would put it out on here if anyone comes across it. Cheers Harri Glyn

Does any one buy large quantities of poplar

New to this site. But though was worth an ask.    Ive recently started helping a large estate with thier tree management, they have a large woodland planted with 2 variates of poplar. Originally planted  for matches however that becsme redundant. The woodland is planted so every other tree was sacrificial.    Does anyone know of anyone or companies that would buy large quantities of poplar. As the estate is looking to thin out this woodland.    Any help would be gre

carving (for) fun

I don't have a garden, or not much of one, and anyway, what there is has no road frontage whatsoever.   However, some friends run a tearooms and keep chickens at a place not too far away that is situated on a country lane that is often used as a 'rat run' to get to a nearby city rather than use the often clogged main route. Over the winter they noticed that a large Leylandii between their car park and the road was showing signs of lifting the car park in strong winds, so it had to come

Monkey Puzzle Timber

Hi, I'm considering felling a 40' (ish) Monkey Puzzle in Leicester, I'm going to chip all of the branches, however have heard that the trunk timber is useful to some. I can either drop it in small sections, or in larger chunks. Whomever collects will need a Hiab crane or similar if I'm dropping it in big bits, seems it will be very heavy!   Anybody interested  in this?    Jon

A Guide to Personal Protective Equipment and Workwear

There is a raft of regulations governing health and safety in UK workplaces. It is the responsibility of every employer to be aware of the regulations and to comply with them. The regulations come under the umbrella act which is The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 although you may see it written as HSWA.   The act places a duty on employers to “ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work of all his employees”.   If, as an employe

No wood🙁

I joined a month ago now, & not had a single call or msg. Does it usually take some time before someone would make contact, or is it that there are too many established tip sites in my area? Any advice welcome.

Wood processing

Hi Guys  newbie to this site, I’m looking into starting a wood processing unit for fire wood logs and I’ve heard that you need planning consent to do this even on a farm, but I can’t find any confirmation of this on the web, I’m in Ashford Kent, anyone know the legalities of this. I was only going to do it at weekends and evenings to start and see how things went before I gave up my day job. your views would be appreciated. kind regards  Phil

P R E D A T O R  2 8 R X - Clutch Replacement

P R E D A T O R  2 8 R X   Today we was called out to a predator 28RX, a very cool machine indeed. It being radio controlled and all, its like a little robot that smashes anything in its way! I mean who needs to build a robot for "Robot Wars", you could just buy one of these right?!   So the problem was the cutting wheel would just stop dead when it went munching in the stump too hard. Predator service guys came out and narrowed the issue down to the clutch b

Looking for a Load of Cord length Firewood, Wareham, Dorset

My regular supplier has retired so I'm looking for a supplier who can deliver trailer loads of cord length logs at a reasonable price.  I am happy to take green hard wood because I have space to store it while it seasons but I would expect to pay less for this.  I can take about 1 or 2 loads (like the one in the pictures below) at a time. I would prefer hardwood (and a season or 2 since felling if available) but will also consider softwood if the price is right.  If you are going
