I would say it’s a bit of a mix of to ridged design and a bit of operator error in not placing enough load on the front legs when up &/or having the front of the land rover up-hill when on modest slopes regularly.

 

Its surprisingly common on trucks when truck cranes are fitted because the sub-frame has been made to ridged and the vehicle gets flexed a lot off-road etc.

Thats a good post,frightening stuff,from an end user's perspective I hope someone gets hung for that!

what age is your landy ? i speak to the guys in the garrage at western power down here and they have the oppinion that the current defenders are not worth bothering with , i must admit i have never been in there and not seen a couple of landys in bits . i guess its another case of cutting build costs at the expense of reliability and quality which is a shame for what was a good british designed and built machine

I did my 4 year apprenticeship with locomotors building specialist vehicles. We would not have built a vehicle like that on that chassis. If you look at the first picture who in their right mind would put that sort of weight on a 2mm box section 150mm x 75mm . That kit would have been put on something like a 7 tonne renault chassis or by todays standard a mit canter. :confused1:
