Agricultural Vehicle Registration - any advantages ?

I know they're exempt road tax, are there other benefits to an agri registered vehicle ?

I've been looking at large quads for extracting coppice, some are agri registered. From what I can see this allows a short road trip, which means that as I live less than a mile from my woods I could store it at home nice and safe.

Do agri vehicles get cheap insurance ?

Re: Agricultural Vehicle Registration - any advantages ?

it all depends on where you keep them and who you use, i would call the nfu, use my office, they seem to be the best in the country and easy to deal with. jennifer or willie on 01563 524 013

definatly not, my agri plated atv this year has cost me nearly £800 they have changed any new policies to reflect that of normal cars, where by you build up no claims, thats with NFU, although that does cover a trailer, my seed spreader and sprayer unit as well.

also you dont need an mot, but you are limited to 25mph on ag plates, i didnt think the distance thing mattered on ag plated atv, its if its registered as plg and you apply for limited distance exemption that it comes in, although its a grey area.

Ok, I know I will get shot down for this one, BUT, be very, very careful!

I have recently looked into this, and the law has changed.

YOU CAN ONLY TRAVEL UPTO 1.6km FROM ONE PLACE OF WORK TO ANOTHER WITH AGRI REGISTERED VEHICLES

Shoot me down, slag me off, do what you like- i dont care- but i would seriously advise checking with DVLA first, I have, also with VOSA, same answer!

This is the whole grey area again, our game keeper went to DVLA offices locally and asked about distances from base etc, and he was told he was fine to travel as far as he needed as long as it was related to the work. But like you said a friend in cumbria was told the 1km rule,

i dont think they know really

Re: Agricultural Vehicle Registration - any advantages ?

Believe me Charlieh, I HAVE SEEN the relevant paperwork at VOSA, and IT IS 1.6km from one place of work or field, to another.

Only exceptions are specialist vehicles such as combine harvesters, tractors, steam engines, and mowing machines.

Depending what the vehicle is named as on the log book will help, ie "tractor" "motorcycle" "land rover"

A quad does not fall in the category of "tractor" because it is not solely designed for work on land.

It therefore falls under category of limited use, therefore has the 1.6km limitation.
