Making an oak picnic bench direct out of the log

Going to be doing lots of these this year.

The Peterson makes things easier but you could do the same method with a big circular saw to hand.

Great video. It has inspired me to dust off my old chainsaw mill for when I get a suitable butt. What sort of money would you sell the bench for?

Re: Making an oak picnic bench direct out of the log

Not a lot really - prob around 150-00 + vat.... it's still quite rough...

Main thing is it's all 3" oak which sets it apart from other benches.

Am going to make a load and instead of sanding everything perfectly I'll make em, leave outside a month for the surface to dry, then spend max 30 mins sanding any corners, sharp edges and obvious splinters.

That way I can sell cheaply and so they're more likely to sell.

Rob,

Will a solid 3" bench warp? I would have thought you would join and glue maybe biscuit joint?
