  3. ! ! No more Quercus imports from the Netherlands, Belgium or Germany…..press release Friday 12th July 2019 from DEFRA.!! Tighter restrictions on oak tree imports to come into force. Strengthened measures on the import of most species of oak into England are to be introduced to protect native trees from the threat of the tree disease Oak Processionary Moth (OPM). The bolstered measures will only permit imports of certain oak trees, including:- · Those from OPM free countries. · Those from designated pest free areas including Protected Zones (PZ) - an area of the European Union declared free of OPM. · Those that have been grown under complete physical protection for their lifetime. This Statutory Instrument (SI) – which is due to be introduced in Parliament shortly– builds on measures introduced in August 2018 and applies to all oak trees, except cork oak, over a certain size. The restrictions will cover both imports from overseas and the movement of trees from areas of the country where OPM is already present – in London and surrounding counties. At the Barcham Trees nursery in Cambridgeshire, UK, we have been enforcing a strict Biosecurity Policy for a number of years. Our trees are supplied free of OPM. Visit www.barchampro.co.uk
  4. Hi There, Currently coming across lots of medium to mature aged sycamores with damage to the bark and cambium thus killing limbs and in more severe cases the whole tree. The tree that concerns me is mature with the cambium stripping away 5M up the main trunk and about 1/3rd of the circumference of the cambium. There is clear evidence of (what I presume to be) larvae damage on the deadwood falling with clear lines of feeding indicative of beetle damage. There is a lack of entrance or exit holes on this particular tree and I'm a little stumped as to a) what species is causing it and b) the extent of the damage that this species may cause. Any ideas on the pest or how I may find out more scientifically? Regards Richard TREE CANOPY CLIMB
  5. Hi Guys, I am at collage studying arboriculture and have recently started doing about pest and disease and am wondering if anyone could recommend me an identification book to carry when working and seeing jobs for both fungi and pest and disease. I realise that a definitive book wont be out there as our understanding is constantly changing but is there an identification book out there worth getting for arb purposes? Cheers Conall

  8. Hi, Does anyone know where I can buy metal bird spikes cheaply! I find them to be extortionate given what it looks like to make them! Your help is much appreciated.
