  1. Used to do a month up until things like phones and bank transfers, never had many problems. I can count on one hand the non payers and I just returned their trees to them. Now we have bank transfers etc I give people 2 weeks. Nearly all pay straight away but it's about presentation of the business for me. Yes we can come and work for you anytime without the need to be paid straight away. It goes a long way...
  2. Pre use picture for effect 😂
  3. These are immediately comfortable and even better after a dog walk ... Having worked in them today I've managed to drive home in them. Not really any issues other than everyone at work keeps looking at them 😕wanted brown ones but not in stock in my size so went with it......
  4. Leave it with a for sale sign on at the end of the drive of a caravan dwellers housing area..
  5. It suggests you don't trust the customer asking for payment straight away along with that you are skint and desperate. So trusting customers to pay is the basis of a good relationship with them ,then they return...
  6. Why would dumping chip and logs on a non paying customers driveway block neighbours from leaving their homes..? Do you live in a commune?😂😂😂
  7. Just take a stick in your harness when climbing and use a petrol saw with extra 2 stroke oil added to the mix.... Poke em with a stick then smoke em out....
  8. £20k won't get you a chipper and tipper or pay insurance and a groundie so you will need a lot more than that if you are going to hit the ground running rather than with a splat. Agreed on the toff tho, they can be the worst for payment. I find the skint looking old buggers with labradors quite honestly the worst. I still give customers 2 weeks as it's polite and asking for immediate payments is rude in my book. I send reminders after 7 days and 9 out of 10 pay within a few days now what with bank transfers etc. Avoid cash payments if you can while you get going as it keeps the tax account steady. Stand your ground on quotes and always add a bit to allow for discount if they are really pushy and you want the job. Agreed with working abroad, I went into the European mountains and did forestry at altitude along with a few stupid jobs repairing cable cars etc to get a head for business. Not really many big trees left in the UK now....
  9. After also 20yrs + regularly working I don't think I'll bother paying again for any more tickets or refreshments. Coffees are free with most customers but I don't mind paying for ice hockey tickets....
  10. Read the original post ... Then have a cup of tea .... Then go off and retrain as a waste operation engineer.. It's quite easy 👍
  11. I give people 2 weeks. ... You have to take the rough with the smooth. I have also returned removed trees to non paying customers driveways which when done late in the day seems to cause problems blocking in parked vehicles when wood chip and logs are tipped .....
  12. Start with £100k in the bank and see how long it is before you run out after buying kit you will need and setting aside enough money to pay a groundie and insurance Don't forget people take ages to pay and some don't....
  13. Cut out the wood floor. Build up from ground level with block and back fill with concrete. Lay hearth stone on this and then place burner on that. Replace wooden floor around the new stone base and make it big enough to meet current regs for combustable material contact and add 300 mm on top of that to be sure. A. 6ft by 4ft base will give ample space to site a burner and meet regs,
  14. I never said running the saw without the side cover but without bar and chain is acceptable. Pop off now fella and try some refreshing employment as a collection engineer...🤪😁👍
  15. Perfectly safe to run a saw without the bar attached. It's common place in machinery workshops without issue. I think it's you that needs retraining.... Possibly as a waste collection engineer......
  16. Well I think it will have to be a requirement not a recommendation for me to part with hard earned and days off . I also have not gained anything from previous refreshment othe than smoking while refuling does constitute a fail ...🤪 The bloke didn't give a sh1t ... He still cuts and is very good but hey it is what it is. It's a tough man's job and any tree cutter worth it is always going to be up to date with regular work
  17. Yeah I'm thinking that. I'll get at it over the weekend. Apparently it's a common fault
  18. Must be 😂
  19. I get the point about utility retraining especially when they swop around on and off colour markers to keep people on their toes or have auto reclose upped by a number of times before remaining open . I just don't see why being charged by private training companies is necessary when it could easily be done in house on a normal working day... At work....
  20. True but lazy cutters that don't keep up with new kit and rules are rare in my experience. I certainly will not be paying for training and will continue to work. Like you say it's an advisory not a copulsary requirement.
  21. Doesn't happen. It's perfectly safe to run a saw without a bar fitted
  22. Bolt an old land rover engine to the kit
  23. Make the claim and move on
  24. Wash your hands and burn the car seat
