  1. Questions to Unimog "experts". I know very little about them and tbh have never had any interest. However it was suggested to me that one might provide the answer to secondary forwarding conundrums. Where our timber contractor can't put wood roadside due to site constraints etc, a tractor and trailer has so far provided the missing link. Would however, a Unimog be more suitable for road work? Steep learning curve and I won't be operating it. I've gleaned a little information as follows so far but correct me if I'm wrong. White diesel. Commercial not agricultural restrictions. Next to no hitch weight*. Crane can be mounted on unit. GTW 41 tonnes. Possible upto 23/24 tonnes on trailer. Assume trailer needs triple axles centrally located*. 56mph. Ability to multitask i.e move plant too. Like I say, all new to me. Appreciate your expertise and experience. Cheers then.
  2. Right. I've been looking at photographs from winter 19-20. There are more than expected with brighter skies than I recall. Odd. Now convinced this winter 23-24 has actually been worse. Endless days of very dull, very wet conditions. You'll be glad you're not here! It's really miserable. If you suffer from S.A.D, here* is not the place to be!
  3. Wettest winter I can remember. Maybe on par with 2019-20; that was never ending too. Looking forward to a drought and a heatwave from March thru October. Cheers.
  4. Bought and Brought.
  5. I'm certain I saw on here somewhere that brash (after chipping obviously) is making £24/tonne at the moment. Can't find the post or link tho. Any Idea? Thanks.
  6. Yeah I think there is a Pfanzelt on Moray estate. Scott Burton of SB Forestry is your man.
  7. You've made my day. That 1000% sums up my Mrs. 🤣🤣
  8. Hi All. Thinking of letting out a former dairy which measures 70' deep by 30' wide. No electric, water etc, just a plain concrete floor. Tenant wants it for timber storage / light sawing. Absolutely clueless. Any hint of business rates on this is a killer I think. Whatya reckon? Thanks.
  9. A "For Sale" sign flew down the road like an aeroplane and smashed into a parked car. Must have been an almost 100 metre flight! Wild.
  10. There are a number of grid watch websites; this one and another are permanently on my desktop. And the edf Nuke live 😀 Price per megawatt hour will generally mirror interconnect imports / exports. National Grid: Live GRID.IAMKATE.COM Shows the live status of Great Britain’s electric power transmission network
  11. Interesting thread. I used to work in Power Station Industry before I retired. I think Hartlepool and Heysham are both offline atm for steam valve checks - unscheduled. Ratcliffe on Soar (currently at 65% output) needs to stay - that is seriously obvious.
  12. Ah that's good. My firmness of comment was motivated by care rather than disrespect. There's a good fb page called firewood banter or some such name that is pretty helpful too.
  13. Cancel the order for the splitter. Unless you're talking of only doing one lorry load a year? In which case, wasting your time buying in, even at that marginally lower price. My most serious concern however is you not knowing the answer to the question of how many ibc crates a ton (of what wood?) would be filled. Lorry loads to crates is irrelevant as there are various lorry sizes. Are you buying hardwood/softwood, ash or sweet chestnut? Processor size or oversize? You need to get a handle on all this before spending a bean or contemplating a business.
  14. Yeah I had a blower motor that would only run at speed 3. Changed the separate resistor but made no difference. Changing the whole blower inc mounted resistor thing and voilà
  15. Whereabouts are you roughly? Ta
  16. I know by the start of December we'd had approaching 1000mm since the start of the year. 750mm is normal for here so it's probably likely that we've had pretty much 50% extra by the end of '23.
  17. Ask for a white one as opposed to an amalgam one....
  18. What else do you expect from the New European?! Pure Starmerite Shite. Ftr, no opinion about Michelle Moan, I bet she does 🤣
  19. What would you expect to pay / charge per day for an 8 tonner with good splitter on it? I'm looking at a Blacks one from Fuelwood. 👍
  20. £210 for 1.8 cube is very reasonable (£117 per cube). Nearer £145/cube here.
  21. Google maps on my phone, Waze etc etc thinks I am in Edinburgh. I'm actually on the train near Birmingham! What's that all about?! I'm not on WiFi either. Bizarre. Done all the usuals - restart phone etc etc. Any ideas, thanks.
