  1. Cant tell by the pictures but could be Scab. Your soil looks dry as well, give it a good water
  2. Teach him how to peck a face and back cut and put him to work 🤘
  3. We've got the 22 tonne, they're currently using our picture as their main website pic. Really good equipment, well thought out. They definitely split quicker with 2 of you on it at once, but you'll be doing well to be able to split more than 3/4 m3 in a day
  4. Anyone had a go at using one?
  5. Its a superb saw to use in the tree, as well as on the ground
  6. I'd rather run 50:1, save the money I'd have spent on Aspen, and bought a new saw
  7. Any update? This has been the highlight of my weekend
  8. That does my nut in! We turned up to a job this week and the neighbour of our client asked us to stop chipping because he was about to get his piano tuned 🙄
  9. Looking at buying a decent pole saw for roadside clearances. HT 135 seems to be good?
  10. Monkey puzzle. Ugly and shit to work with.
  11. Looks like Chlorosis to me. High water content could be leaching Iron from the soil?

    Prices

I'll be honest, I'm a mediocre climber and if anything really tricky comes up we'll hire in a MEWP for £400 plus vat for the day. To me paying £350 per day (or passing on to the client) would be acceptable for a small number of jobs
  13. No worries mate! Google maps is underrated, get a business profile made up and get previous clients to leave you a 5 star review. Even if your website is initially low in the rankings, local people looking for a tree surgeon will see your ratings on google maps and likely click you.
  14. For us newspapers, yell.com, Facebook etc have all been a huge waste of time and money. Google ads is the only thing that's worked for us, but it needs a lot of money outlayed to begin with to get any return. @Clutchy is the guy to speak to, as its his advice we took in the first place and its paid off many times over. On a seperate note, flyers have worked well for us, although it doesn't work for everyone. We found for every 1000 we put out, we'd get around 3 or 4 quotes back. Word of mouth is super important, we've done a job on a street, then been passed around the houses doing jobs for other folk on the street. Be punctual, tidy and polite and you'll get a good name for yourself. Best of luck mate
  15. Looking at our next large purchase to make life easier and we're looking at buying a Sherpa 100. Admittedly we won't be able to use it on all jobs, but the ones we do use it on will hopefully speed the process up. Has anyone else got one, if so, how often are you using it within a typical month?
  16. We have a groundie that we've been paying as a freelancer for the past 6 months. All very unofficial, he does the work, invoices us and we pay him. Its on an ad hoc basis as he has to do the school runs so can only really work from 10 until 1500 on certain days, some days due to family commitments he cant work, but he's an absolute beast and does more than enough work when he's onsite. He's recently brought up that he wants more money, and would prefer to go on as a paye with us which is not a problem, however with regards to the ad hoc work hours/days we're not sure of the best contract to put him on. Do we put him on a minimum hour contract? 0 hour?
  17. We're busy again, but only within the past 2 weeks mate
  18. Tunnelling would be first choice
  19. Is the planning documents headed "Town and planning act 1947"?
  20. Sounds about right mate. Most trees i take the diameter x 3.14 ÷ 2.5. Obviously yew is far slower growing.
