  1. All this is all very well, but where i live there are loads of conservation areas where you cannot even touch your OWN trees.. This does not stop the council from doing away with literally HUNDREDS of them when it suits THEIR purposes though. One rule for one, another rule for them.. john..
  2. Well that is fair enough, if they have actually gone out and measured, then that is a different matter. Is there a law though that says you cannot build near trees?? john..
  3. They can yes, but they cannot have "blanket" decisions nor can they act in an ultra vires fashion.. Councils do a lot of things that they have no power to do and totally ignore legal duties plased upon them too.. john..
  4. What owners club?? john..
  5. I did try emailing Timberwolf to ask them if you could retrofit the wheels. No reply though.. Great product, but ZERO interest once you have bought one.. Much as it is a brilliant machine, if i ever bought another it would nto be a timberwolf one as it seems that once you have bought one they could not care less after that.. john..
  6. You never know!! john..
  7. Well, i thought i had. There was one on ebay. I bought it, was apparently good condition blah blah. Few days later get an email to say that the book had been damaged in storage and would i like a different book. What they mean is, they never had one in the first place.. So, never EVER buy a book from a place called "world of books" as they are liars.. Still waiting for the refund... john..
  8. They were definitely right!! Proper cumbersome thing as you say.. john..
  9. Think i might need a longer axle too.. john..
  10. I would love one of them!!! john..
  11. Hi All, I have a Timberwolf 13/75. Mine is fitted with the solid wheels. Anyone know if i could fit it with the pneumatic wheels, as these would be loads better. Presumably i would need a new longer axle.. Any of you timberwolf dealers?? Thank you john..
  12. The "policy" they mention.. Does this have any basis in law??? What i mean is, a council could not for instance insist that people could only cut down trees with a Husqvarna saw, as this would clearly have no basis in law.. Upon which laws would he council seek to rely?? [out of interest] john..
  13. No, i cannot see anything either.. john..
  14. Would that not be 7/500 = 0.014 x 100 = 1.4 So 100 - 1.4 = 98.6% Mind you TEMPERATURE is entirely different to heat.. Think of this, to heat the surface of a material with a very low specific heat capacity that was a good insulator to 500 degrees, would take very little heat, but to warm up the entire brickwork of your house to 7 degrees [from nothing] would take an awful lot of heat [for not a lot of temperature change] Still, beats the heck out of having an insulated flue and having 500 degree flue gasses, [and a toasty warm sky!] john..
  15. Can i just say, a local authority CANNOT just set "policies" and decide that is that. They have to decide each case on its merits, Blanket policies are unlawful.. It is called "fettering their discretion" Letter to the council monitoring officer, and if no luck, ombudsman. Not saying the ombudsman casn change the verdict, but what they CAN do, is to make sure your case was considered in the proper manner and not just a blanket "no" john..
  16. Never heard of one of them.. What are they like then?? john..
  17. Have a read of this.. Why Is My Chimney & Fireplace Drafty? - Certified Chimney Sweeps WWW.HIGHSCHIMNEY.COM Interested in diagnosing a smokey fireplace? Call our chimney experts in the Gaithersburg MD area for a chimney... john..
  18. The smoke goes up the flue, because it is warmer and thus less dense than the outside air and so it rises [as a hot air balloon would] This is why longer flues draw better, they contain more hot air.. Now, say it is warmer outside than it is in your house, the opposite happens and the air outside will come DOWN the flue, and, as you say, fill the room with smoke.. john..
  19. That is good to know!! I thought the brickwork would stay stoney cold as it were!! john..
  20. Ah, yes, good thinking.. My house no trouble with draw, so i will not bother or need one of them liner things, rather have warm walls!!
  21. I have never understood why anyone would want an insulated flue, what is the point of that, making the sky hotter?? The more heat that going into the brickwork the better, i want the flue gasses to be cold when they come out the top so as all the heat will have been transferred to the house. john..
  22. I found a website of a firm that make the required bits and pieces, precast clay fittings for the flue adn things like that, but they are in the USA. How did you get the bits for yours or is it all homemade as it were?? [because they do appear the thing to have] I will try to find one of them books now!! john..
  23. See, i learnt something then!!! I do not know much about dogs at all.. Always wondered how they convince a greyhound to chase a mechanical rabbit!! john..
  24. Just looked them up.. That might be just the thing to suit me!! They look like they would be easy to install in the space i have too [nearly 4 foot square but not very deep] Thank you very much!! john..
