  1. Watched 'Last woman on earth', BBC last night. She visited some Forest Cleaners in Sweden who use horses to extract logs.

There was 2 horses working together to pull a palms trailer with its own grab, very peaceful.

I set up from scratch many years ago, there is money to be made but you'll work for it unless you've got the equipment to handle everything. I lasted four seasons before I jacked it and sold all my gear.

There are plenty of easier ways to make money.

What's the minimum gear Liam might need to start off with eggsarascal? I know nothing about 'doing logs'

Once he starts turning those logs into dosh then the laborious nature disappears and a big permanent smile appears.

I'm not following the logic here.

If the laborious nature of doing logs would disappear once money is earned, why would the laborious nature of groundwork not disappear with payment?

Anyway, never really felt that tree work was laborious myself, more often surprised by how much doing it makes me happy, and yes, even in the heat or cold and wet just dragging to a chipper I'm usually smiling inside.

Have laughed so much at this post David so Thankyou 😁 very funny lol GIF

Del boy in a kilt, you don't know how lucky you are!

I didn't hear a note from the bagpipes on auld years night, in Scotland. Still fuming that you have your own personal piper, and you live south of London!

Will do, never usually climb with my phone as I'm scared to watch it drop and hit every branch on the way down 😂

I broke so many screens while having the phone in my pocket at work I got a bombproof case for it.

Never broke after that but it wouldn't let me hang up from a call so ditched the case and leave it in the pickup now, very safe!

  6. I often do it (fortunately I have ongoing permission from a few woodland owners) but have rarely had anyone question what I'm up to, although I'm in a fairly quiet part of Scotland where people are less concerned about trespass.

Only twice been approached, a guy that was interested in the equipment as he used to climb and woman wanted to apologise for her dog peeing on my rope bag!

Have wondered if wearing helmet has similar effect to hi-vis waistcoat and people assume you're official

The concern about the tree blowing over has come from the comments on this forum.

I didn't have it before but when someone says it's a potential death trap - I listen.

  8. Hi, I have someone doing clothing repairs for me and they'd like to find an old pair of chainsaw trousers to salvage some protective material from.

    Size, brand, type is unimportant.

Just wondered if anyone has an old pair that they intend throwing away?

Happy to pay something for them

    Thanks

  9. Snooze247, I have had same problem occasionally that you show in the video, with a 560 with both husky or oregon bars. It won't adjust up enough to tighten the chain. I wouldn't use the saw when it's like that though.

I just take the chain/bar/cover off and fit it all again carefully, also moving the chain a bit by hand as you adjust seems to help.

Yeah Betty don,t like birds either, chases em looking up in the air,its going to end in tears one of the days

Was a young buzzard that turned Santi against birds, he chases them all now.

It took to practicing it's hunting on me and him by swooping from behind when we were working in a particular place.

I had it touch top of my helmet once, it touched on his back twice! Second time he yelped and the parent buzzard had a real go at the youngster, it never bothered us again

Thankyou Doug 🙂 have you tried a few different makes of chainsaw trousers on ? It’s hard to get chainsaw trousers that are cut for a lady and so far I have not seen one comment from a women 🙃 definitely a mans world.

Have worn husqvarna which I didn't rate much. Stihl which were good, warm in winter and kept thorns out well but the seams and pockets needed repair often.

Arbortec at moment, next will probably be pfanner on advice of folk I've worked with.

I've never tried wearing the women's version though!

These Chainsaw trousers are made for women so hopefully will be up to the job and they are class C so fine for Lantra courses. Does anyone else wear Arbortec ? 🙂

I have breatheflex, comfy and light compared to others I've worn. They're starting to tear at the crotch seam with doing the splits but my other chainsaw trousers do the same.

Dislike the hooks that go over your laces, pointless and catch on everything
