  1. I presume Aristotle was Botty C's attempt at another pseudonym, quickly spotted by the boss (possibly using the same location and avatar wasn't a clever move), but what's Mr Wick got to do with it?

Might as well have been for the nonsense they talked. American style team bonding. They pretty soon unbonded when a ferret popped up from behind the Pavlova.

Solicitors papers were received the following week.

Bet it was the best teamwork they ever accomplished, joint escape and evasion from the ferret!

But I would have done that with my 8" bar Makita saw from the start, bugger using a great big petrol topper for that type of job.

You're right. Up until recently I'd have used a Stihl 150 but I left the company, currently it's just whatever small jobs come along done with my own collection of equipment. Saw wise I'm a weekend warrior with a topper (not running) and a mid range groundsaw.

  4. Re-topping Leylandii for a mate today. By 11am my t540 started playing up, after lunch it'd start (eventually) with choke but died as soon as it got revs so gave up with it.

As I was grumbling about using a bigger saw my mate produced his battery saw, has it in his pickup for making small branches he finds when shooting pickup size to take home. I gave it a go to please him and bugger me, it finished the job on a battery and a half! I am prepared to be ridiculed.

  5. For those of a glass half full outlook, on two occasions recently I've gone outside and it hasn't been raining for a few minutes, and when it started again it smelled like summer rain.

Might be the new way of telling the seasons, what the rain smells like.

  6. For me she started off being fairly enthusiastic, then became sarcastic ("oh, show me which one you haven't worked on then"), but when I started pointing out the good lay-bys to stop the tractor for a pee she made it clear she'd heard enough.

  7. Was just thinking earlier I need to develop a more patient approach, maybe it's watching quizzes on TV but I seem to rush, feeling like I'm against the clock, then regret the poor choices in the aftermath.

  8. Another evocative one was used in one of the Winter Olympic adverts. Don't know who wrote it or when but it stuck with me, The Dreadful Menace.

    I am the dreadful menace.
The one whose will is done.
The haunting chill upon your neck.
    I am the conundrum.

    I will summon armies.
Of wind and rain and snow.
I made the black cloud overhead.
    The ice, like glass below.

    Not you, nor any other.
    Can fathom what is nigh.
I will tell you when to jump.
    And I’ll dictate how high.

The ones that came before you.
Stood strong and tall and brave.
But I stole those dreams away.
Those dreams could not be saved.

But now you stand before me.
    Devoid of all dismay.
    Could it be? Just maybe.
I’ll let you have your day.
