  1. Just under with the calculations I took. But would it be worth £100
  2. I’m doing two courses in November and really looking forwards to it. Hope it’s has good as I’m hearing.
  3. Thanks for the feedback and information, I’ve down loaded the info you’ve mentioned and I’ve been studying it and practicing some of what’s needed for the course. I don’t know any arborists locally so I can’t ask anyone for help. All my kit for the course is brand new I’ve also renewed all my climbing gear and PPE gear. although I’m using the hitch climber for my tree work I still practice using the Blake’s and the friction hitch in order to know what to do when on the course. If their is anything else you can help me out on I would be most grateful. Many thanks Paul Tomo.
  4. Thanks for putting that on, brilliant ?
  5. 8mm Marlow viper for me. It's just what my local supplier had in. It's only a mile and a half from home and I drink with a couple of folks who work there. So quicker than mail order I’ve got 8mm ocean cord being delivered with the Fly, but how local dealer stock mainly Treehog climbing gear. The only treehog gear I’ve got is the climbing spikes and happy with those and I’ll pop down and see what rigging gear they have, that’s my next batch of gear I need to buy.
  6. I’m going on a course in November for the tree access & rescue then the working with chainsaw from harness, my question to you is what should I be working on practicing wise until I start the course. I’ve been working from heights and using chainsaws in trees for a few years off & on and now I want to get my qualifications but I guess I need to practice what is required for the course in order to get the qualifications. any feedback would be great.
  7. I’m going on a course in November for the tree access & rescue then the working with chainsaw from harness, my question to you is what should I be working on practicing wise until I start the course.
  8. I’ve e ordered the Teufelberger Fly and it should arrive Monday. Are you using 8mm cord on your hitch climber?
  9. I’m using hedera and I’m using the hitch climber as well, I’m going on the tree access and rescue plus the harness and chainsaw course in November so I’d thought I’d get a new rope for the course. I’m not sure if they use hitch climber gear?
  10. I’ve just ordered 3m of 8mm Teufelberger Ocean friction cord which should arrive on Monday. I’ll have a go at making some hitch cord when I get the heavy duty heat shrink and a sharp knife. A stanly knifes blade should do if I’m right.
  11. How did you get on with the Teufelberger Fly.
  12. Your right Rich, although I’ve used the end of the rope to use the Blake’s hitch, using the clove hitch to tie off then add the Blake’s hitch.
  13. If I buy a few metres of ocean cord in 8mm I can make some Prussic loops up for the Blake’s hitch as well, I’m going on two courses in November so I’ll need them as well.
  14. Thanks for the reply and thanks for adding some pics. I can see that the two ropes are different to each other, what ropes are you using? I’m impressed with the pics. I will google these products and see if I can buy them local to me, so a sharp knife, super glue and some heat shrink or some whipping twine and I’m ready to go. Is the whipping twine something that fly fisherman use? Many thanks
  15. To save a few pennies on friction cordage I was thinking of buying the ocean 8mm friction cord by the metre thus making my own friction cord to what ever length i need. I have been told that to cut the cord you can’t hot knife the cord, it needs to be cut with a sharp knife instead. If this is so then who do I seal the ends of the cord in order to stop them from fraying. I’m going on a access and rescue course and I need to make some prussic’s up and I was wanting to make my own using the Teufelber ocean friction cord. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Paul Tomo
  16. Thanks Gary for the input, would you think it’s worth me going back and taking the lateral limbs off or just leave it as it is. I think it would put me in good stead for more work.
  17. Can’t it kill the tree if you take to much off? He only wanted it topping 6ft. I would say that trimming the tree like you say would look better.
  18. After taking the pics yesterday after finishing the trees I came back to the farm in the afternoon to see if the farmer was ok with what I’d done, I did have a feeling that he would want another couple of feet taking off one of the trees. I was right about the extra couple of feet that needed to be taken off, in fact a total of four foot came off the final cut. He was very happy with both trees and now more work from the farmer is on its way. This last pic is of the tree that needed the four foot taking off, thanks for your reply’s to my post. 19. I’ve been back to the farm today and topped the two trees. The farmer was out delivering a horse which left me to get on with the trees on my own, best option was to climb and tie myself off and use the silky hand saw, the safest option I thought. Just thought I’d show a pic or two of the two trees now they are finished.
  20. Thanks for the info and input Mike, I’ve been looking on Gumtree but the price on some trailers are way above my price range. I’ll take your advice mate thanks
  21. At the moment I can only deliver a small amount at a time, I could use the inside of the van as we’ll to make up a cubic metre. My trailer is only 4+3+1.5ft this is only half the size of a cube, but I think it should make about £60 odd. When end funds are better I will be looking for a caged ifor Williams trailer so until then I will have to keep using my little trailer, just hope it holds up until.
  22. Thanks for your reply it’s much appreciated. I’ve quoted him £150 and I think the first tree I’ll do from ladders and harness like you say and that will keep me on the safe side, the second I’ll do from the picker. just thought I’d ask about the price because I’ve been thinking I’m a little to high. I’m doing two courses in November to top up my certification. I’m just getting back into the trees after trying something else out, I’m glad I’m going on the two courses in November as this will steer me in the right direction. many thanks
  23. He’s a 75 year old farmer and maybe the spud crate is as old has he is.
