  1. Go for it Danny Boy ...and with pallets you get so many different woods, and if your picky then you can just use the nice bits of grain.
  2. Cheers herne... "a table sander with DRO thickness control will be your best friend." sounds good, will look into it...I have heard of planer/thickernesser but didnt know there was better, thanks.
  3. Thanks roys...and yours is a good job too, does the job , in fact I will near on copy that pallet bench of yours for a shed bench I need to house my grinding wheel I got for last christmas. Thanks for sharing your work
  4. Thanks for the comments guys ..."Take it you had the pallets good and dry? " Its not easy getting dry pallets but luckerly a company near me throws low moisture content pallets away daily ,so as long as its not raining or your quick, its good to use.I still always bring them indoors to a heated room a week or 2 before using. Also the use of the pallets is for dry products so they are always inside before I get them.
  5. Thanks Woodworks...I will have to take some better pics of the other woods that are there...to the untrained eye(mine) it looks like at least 10 different types.I used to think all pallets were pine but I have few peices that look so amongst the hundreds used. Most Oak pallets I get I use/save for ornimental 1 piece works.
  6. The doors did catch when first hung, I cut the back edges of and now they close without touching.
  7. Would definately make more to order...Am currently working out a possible buisness as the feedback has blown me away, can secure the wood and workshop within 24hours notice. Can build and deliver within a resonable timeframe of an order placed for a handmade bespoke product.Have many more ideas and have already started the sink section in the same style that would complete a whole kitchen. Please PM me.
  8. Cheers ...If anyone would like to wood I.D those planks I would be grateful. I never used any clamps, just screws and PVA glue, one plank at a time. The doors are planks of pallet wood, original width of about 60mm reduced down to about 50mm once planed and sanded.
  9. Thanks for the feedback...Im not sure about the hinges myself, I suppose thats the one thing I copied from on-line pictures of farmhouse style furniture, maybe I should have done my own idea of hidden hinges and wooden handles.
  10. Thanks ....I only sanded the roughest boards,by hand with 50 grit paper. Before gluing and screwing I checked each board would butt up good enough.Filler filled the left voids once sanded.
  11. Thanks ...The doors are about 2 inches thick.It weighs a lot,would guess 100 kilos +.
  12. Thanks Alec...Its for sale if thats the case And thank you to every one else, I never expected such positive feedback
  13. I needed a Kitchen but the bank account said no...cant afford it. I suggested I try to build my own...The wife said no I thought how can I build one with no money, then I found some free pallets...but then the interweb says no,pallets can be dirty. Wife said no way to pallets.I tried to find some goodlooking pallet kitchen examples on-line and found none. Wayed up the possible dirt factor, and thought chopping boards to be the solution, wife agrees. Designed my own thing on my XP paint home pc and the wife liked it. From 200 brocken pallets I managed to get the wood needed. 3000 screws and 2 litres of PVA. Used a hand saw ,an old cheap planer and orbital sander. Total cost with hinges/handles sanding discs ect £40-£45. What do you think?
  14. I hate to ask but I need to do something. I want to swap my work skills for some Logs(about 8ton a year would be perfect), I cannot afford to buy logs and unfortunately due to a slight disability I cannot get a job in order to get money. I can still do most things but they just take me longer and wont do me much good in the long run,I am still trying to work out exactly what I can do without doing myself more harm. What might have once taken me a day now takes 3 days ,and possibly a day or 2 off inbetween to recover. I am/was a Plasterer, have done most things to do with ground work, used a chainsaw for years but no tickets. Can do some roofing.Have also managed 2 sucsessfull companys in past . So if you have any arb waste or any logs seasoned or not ,and need that wall plastering or something else small or something not needed to be done quick? then maybe we can do a deal? and please dont think you will be putting strain on someone whos ill as any alternative way of me getting wood is hard work and without logs its reguler. This type of deal is hopefully the easiest option for my health.I also have a good mate who is willing to help if needed. I live in Nelson Lanashire so anything within a reasonable distance please.
  15. I would like to sell this table that I made but cannot find anything similer on-line in order to find out what it might be worth.Every-thing I have found is made perfect and I cannot find completely all wood waney edged tables. It is all Sycamore wood other than the 2 feet which are Oak,it comfotabley sits 6 people . Was made for my own familys use and its something that I have never done before,it is far from shop quality perfect and has no proffessional fixings just what ever screws I had.Still need to fix under table support plank. Basicly if its worth enough I would employ someone who knows what they are doing for a day to put all my wrongs right and teach me a few things to. So ,whats it worth?
  16. The erection is why the trees are coming down, some neigbour, op says dug the roots up.
  17. I see this happening all the time just lately, there was 2 similer trees on gumtree not long ago and the ad was not up for long.Just hope someones insurance covers this type of thing.Be a braver man than me to take these on without being qualified ,insured and paid.
  18. Signing is a must, and prob will generate a few orders for more.Maybe you have already but why not send your pics to a horse people web site? there must be loads of people who would love this in there garden or grounds.
  19. Wow...That is impressive,a work of art...do you get to be named as the creator/artist? and...how long would something like this last? is it anually treated?
  20. Hi...saw this ad the other day on another site, hope it helps. Walnut I have photographs of this exceptional Walnut tree available. No intention of milling right now. There is a major union crotch that will make fabulous book-matched slabs Total length 3.5m 2.3m to major union Base Heartwood 27 inches, base width 34 probable main bole heartwood around 20 24 with sapwood Major union heart about 14 overall 18. We are asking £80 per cubic foot. This is an exceptionally good tree but there is a lot of work to be done with it yet. I'm really taken with the multi-stemmed major union. I know some big bowl people who may want that, it would be a shame to lose the crotch figure though. It cannot be lifted whole from site, but a portable bandsaw mill could be used and planks extracted. I would imagine the buyer would be best directing the milling. The asking price includes milling, but carriage and collection is for the buyer unless transport cost is added. Sorry for the huge advert, we are getting a lot of interest and I want everyone to get as full information as possible. I would say we would accept around £1850 for the whole tree, milled in one day. email me please for photos or see my facebook page http://www.facebook.com/macarbor Worcestershire Advert Start Date: 2/3/16 Contact: Richie McBride, Holly Cottage Tree Services T: 01948 830317 M: 07918 600630 [email protected] W: : : Holly Cottage Tree Services : :
  21. The leg symptoms you have could be from a number of causes but if its a new thing from doing something that you have always done then it could be a spinal disc related problem, worth investigating...Happened to me at 36 but at 50 most people will show disc probs anyhow if they had an MRI scan according to my research, your spine does age like us and if well used then wear and tear producing slight problems is fairly common. But if you slip a disc in your neck or lower back it can effect your walking. I had a disc in my neck slipped for 18month before i was diagnosed/treated, this gave me and still does do now extreme fatigue, get so tierd so easy and legs get heavy. The nerves that control your legs run up your whole spine to the brain, usually its lower back that effect walking but if signals to the brain are effected any where it can cause probs. Might sound bad but if caught early then phisio can correct it. Do you have any other symptoms like numbness or probs with balance?
  22. Nice benches ,looks really good .Must be worth a few quid? I pressume these are for outside use? as the benches are attached to the table. From what I have recently veiwed on-line regarding tables and benches,it would seem that if the benches are seperate from the table then its classed as a dining table, attached its a garden table? And price seems higher for dining rather than garden, so would it not be better ,or more profitable to make the benches seperate and call it a dining room table?
  23. Thanks Treemoose...I had 8 boards from one trunk, and that is what they made when put together, had to use oak feet as no more quicker drying sycamore left, at first was gutted because I wanted all boards to run same way but after realising lengths of some needed cutting and shapes of others ect, this is the best/biggest table that could be done.Glad you like it.
  24. Thanks Woodworks...The planks on top did not take all that long,I did leave a few mil gap here and there between them ,the joins are no way near perfect,i trimmed the edges a little in order to fit them together. The boards have not bowed or split but the gaps now have increased by 1-2 mm,not bothered as it adds a little caracter IMO.
  25. I bet he expected better from you tree sturgeons than to mock him.
