  3. Lucky you could start your 251, mine always has been a pig, still holding shed concrete down.
  4. Steve Harley - 'Make me Smile' - one of the classic tracks. R.I.P.
  5. Just got around to clearing the European Hornet's nest out they made in the old hay bales as I posted earlier. Pretty impressive multi storey job.
  6. One of these if you've got mobile reception O2. SpyPoint LM2 SHOP.NATURESPY.ORG The SpyPoint LM2 wireless wildlife camera, available at the NatureSpy Shop. All purchases support our non-profit environmental and social projects.
  7. Our experiences differ markedly then.
  8. Mine cost me nothing other than letting him come metal detecting over a couple of our fields.
  9. Have to agree about the 251, I bought one have hardly used it, feels unbalanced, underpowered and its a pig to start. Sits in the shed holding the floor down. Must find a mug who'd like to buy it.
  10. We had European Hornets make a nest in some old hay bales in our Hay barn. When we were putting last years crop into the barn my wife said she had been stung by a wasp on the arm. We went back that night after darkto spray the nest with wasp nest destroyer, next thing we had them coming out of the nest and we only just got back into the pickup in time. They were crawling all over the car and we realised just how big they were. Quick blast down the road cleared them. Next day her arm swelled up like a sausage with liquid oozing from the wound and very very painful, visit to A&E who wanted to admit her but she wasn't having that so was given some strong antibiotics. Luckily have a tenant who is a professional pest contoller. He came and had a look and identified them as European Hornets which he said were nasty things. He put all his gear on and sprayed nest site with professional grade chemicals, next day still some around so he sprayed it again which did the trick. Very vicious things who will defend the nest after dark. Took a week for swelling to go down and arm too return to normal. All I can say if I see any again it will be big steps in the opposite direction and let the professionals deal with it. She was lucky to have been stung only once, dread to think how bad it would have been if she had been stung multiple times.
  11. Husqvarna 450e light well balanced and has handled everything in our wood from Hazel to Mature Norway Spruce. Still going strong after 12 years.
  12. Double cab pickups useless? I don't think so. My ranger can carry just under a cubic metre of firewood in the tub plus chainsaws, fuel can, helmets etc on the back (covered) seats with tow ropes, gloves etc behind the back seats and two up front. Have skidded trees out of the wood etc. When on hay shifting duties can get min 8 bales on without getting silly, picking bales up off field tailgate down and just sling them in. Tows my 12 ft livestock trailer fully loaded no problem. Leather interior, heated seats (great for that aching back!) air con etc. Horses for Courses.
  13. So my double cab Ranger is insured as commercial. Will it now be insured as a car? Or are the HMRC just doing their own thing?
  14. Lots of info in this post about sssi woodland etc.
  15. I know the OP has decided not to go ahead and I don't blame him. The attached is useful info for anyone in a similar position. Also FC will liaise with NE on your behalf so only the one application now needed. Managing woodland SSSIs and ancient woodland with ash dieback (Hymenoscyphus fraxineus) - GOV.UK WWW.GOV.UK
  16. We insure our tractors, pickup, van and buildings through NFU. Quotes are usually competitive though not cheapest but service is first class and trailers and implements for tractors are covered under vehicle policy. Claims are no hassle.
  17. Bought a small ash woodland last year fully aware of dieback possibility. No sign of it yet and FC have approved management plan to basically thin carefully and just see how it goes, replanting as required. Some of the energy companies will supply trees and guards foc and we have used them to replant windblow areas in our other mainly Norway Spruce woodland. Elm in that wood dies off then regrows quite successfully till it gets to about 12- 14" dia. Not barren at all. Woodland needs managing whatever species in it, they don't just stand still.
  18. And it won't repeat on you after you eat it.
  19. Get a reputable arborist to have a look at it. Unfortunately we get similar exit holes in some of our Norway Spruce in our wood. Tree usually dies and is soft at base. Looks very soft where it's come away. Needs looking at asap as may be a hazard.
  20. Bought one of these a couple of years ago works well even on larger diesel engines, started tractors. HILKA PRO-CRAFT 83850400 400A LI-ION POWER BANK Β£82 Screwfix
  21. They already do it's called Capital Gains Tax. So being cynical maybe the government are quite happy to drive private landlords out of the sector and sell up, nice little tax income for them. Perhaps if everyone stopped bashing private landlords and focussed on the government/councils providing social housing to meet the need whether it be prefab or whatever, the lack of which is the real underlying problem, then a lot of the pressure on house prices/rent levels might reduce.
  22. I bought a couple from Lidl must be 4 or 5 years ago both going strong. use them indoors and out, been the best tapes I've ever had.
  23. Local Wildlife trust may alsoo be worth a try.
