  1. Morning all, Sorry to hear about the yard theft Doug. Some real scum bags out there. On a brighter note, have a good Christmas everyone, and hopefully 2025 can be a better year for the world.
  2. Morning all, Been given my kitchen duties for today by the boss. I find the trouble with making cheese sauce is I have to keep testing it frequently. Mind you, I even test the cauliflower when it is raw. Keeps the M1 southbound moving!
  3. Morning all, Blue sky alternating with sleet and snow here. Crazy but true.
  4. Morning all, Shortest day today, more daylight soon.
  5. Hopefully to a paying customer, rather than a giveaway? I manage to sell all of my deciduous chip, even it it waits in the yard for months.
  6. Nothing on the horizon for the other knee, though I agree about mostly in pairs. Mine was due to an old fashioned cartilage removal aged 13, before arthroscopy existed. This cured the problem of a torn cartilage with a congenital cyst in it, but the price being premature osteoarthritis that started years ago.
  7. Morning all, Saw physio yesterday and he was really please with progress. I was amazed to say the least when he said I can gradually start work, even a bit of gentle climbing. Need to avoid putting significant rotation through new knee, long term. I shall take it very carefully and it will be a while before doing a full day. Best early Christmas present I could ask for. Those painful exercises are worthwhile. Happy Christmas all.
  8. Makes me wonder if there will be a role for rebuliding/reconditioning the older chippers.
  9. Morning all, Not been out yet but it chucked it down most of the night. Heating on and stay inside methinks.
  10. Morning all, Blowy here too. Be good if it dislodged a large hung up pine I quoted for yesterday. Spiral crack at the base, wood building close by. Stay safe.
  11. Morning all, Dry and 9 degrees here. Off to look at a job then into the shed to change some chipper blades. Goodbye cabin fever. Stay safe all.
  12. Morning all, Dry day here and more walking to do. Only 9 days until I can go back on the road now😀. Be good, have fun.
  13. Morning all, Mild and dry here, ideal for a bit more walking. Not preaching at all Doug. Hope the memory settles down soon for you. We need reminding about the nature of our work, so we don't get complacent. I love it when customers realise how much they have underestimated disposal of arisings.
  14. I used to pull them out by hand without gloves in fact, and only stopped doing this when my wife said my hands were too rough.
  15. Morning all, Nice and dry here, on second big mug of coffee, freshly ground. Is anyone else familiar with gardeners being know as scratchers by tree surgeons? I assume it is because a lot of them just scratch the surface of things and when the wheelie bin is full give up. Not all of them of course, but it does seem that way sometimes. Have a good weekend.
  16. Heavy duty flail, followed by glyphosate when the tender new shoots appear in Spring. Or pigs as previously suggested. But loppers is only for a serious masochist, surely. May as well try nail scissors.
  17. Morning all, Grey sky but dry here. More walking for me today, soon be back on the road and starting light work. Have a good weekend.
  18. Sadly you are between rock and a hard place. What Jules says is absolutely correct, no matter how frustrating it is for you. The only real option is to appeal to the secretary of state. I suppose you could take the approach of notifying the local council/tree officer that the owner of the trees will hold them legally responsible for any adverse event due to their tardiness. This is perhaps a more realistic option if you are the owner of the trees, whereas if you are a local tree surgeon it won't help your long term working relationship.
  19. Morning all, Dry here, off to assess a tree (from the ground). Yippee. Have a good day all.
  20. Morning all and happy birthday ShaunPaul, you young man. A balmy 6 degrees here and dry. First day in 4 weeks I am wearing work clothes, time for a bit of gentle pottering in the sheds etc
  21. My late mother in law had an endoscopic repair of hers. I shall go to my appointment.
  22. Just got back from my rehab walk and opened the post. I have an appointment for ultrasound screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm 😂🙈
  23. How long post op is your father now? What did he have done to his tib and fib? I am 27 days now. Yesterday was the longest walk so far at 3km outside, measured on google maps. My phone says I did 8,500 steps including in the house and it seems to think this is 4.8km. I will do a bit less today to allow some recovery. Target from physio is 10,000 steps daily by 6-8 weeks post op. On one of my walks last week I met a chap who had an ankle replaced at the beginning of October. Last week was his first day driving, sounds harder than knee recovery to me. Hope you dad goes on OK.
  24. Morning all, Nice dry day here. More walking to do. Have a good day y'all.
