  1. I think I know the family you're talking about...I actually heard a rumour - just a rumour, mind! - that they're um...well, might as well be blunt...inbred...cough. Sad, really.
  2. Theres a remote stretch of road which always floods in heavy rain, sometimes up to four feet of water, and it gets progressively deeper. Tourists and even locals try to drive through it, thinking its not that deep. Every winter theres two or three cars get stuck and flooded, at night, and theres no cellphone coverage there or farms around. Theres usually a good social scene there, with distraught motorists huddling in the downpour, so I head out at each flood to rescue them and bring them back to the pub. Quite fun.
  3. Seconded. As a teenager I worked for a guy, and with a group of friends, none of whom voted in anything. The first election in which I was able to vote I mentioned that I had...the "boss" nearly dropped his spliff in his lap! "You voted?!?" I gave a rejoinder much like the above post and the general vibe at the lunch table was - 'vote with your feet'.....ok...and go where, exactly?
  4. You might do well...and then go power-mad and make your dog a senator!
  5. "There are old grannies, and there are bold grannies.... But there are no old, bold grannies." Except for herself, obviously.
  6. Beats arsenic I suppose. Jaysus. Never underestimate the dangerousness of the elderly.
  7. So...are you still a socialist? (Gets coat...).
  8. most realistic post so far the thread. It's really the only way this situation is going to resolve, in the long run. The muslim populations in Europe will choose life, civilisation, and integration. They will, bit by bit, self police the regressive out of their ranks.
  9. Too expensive. If they are native born but identify as a member of Islamic State, then they should be dropped off in whatever bit of desert is ISIS territory. Send them to the Caliphate they claim to be a member of. And let them starve in the desert. The Caliphate can be allowed to exist as essentially an open air prison...internment in which will carry a de-facto death sentance.
  10. Dali Lama is more of a realist than he's given credit for...
  11. Well, just be glad we don't live in Germany...some of us would have been fined or jailed for our hate speech - I mean opinions...
  12. If your itinerary takes to to Sweden (I know it doesn't but just for kicks) stock up on cheap spirits in Germany and swap for Aspen!
  13. The Making The News thread is a church service compared to what goes on in the Wild West of Arboristsite!
  14. If the situation is looking that bad, he might consider field and farm work, fruit picking and that. I know a few guys who went strawberry picking in Norway and they didn't have any Norwegian. From there, he can chat with his employer and get a foot in - offer a bit of free welding around the farm, that sort of thing. Hopefully one thing will lead to another....
  15. I bought a McCullough GBV325 hand held Blower, cheap enough, good enough for my needs. Wouldnt run out of the box, I had to contrive a tool out of a channel pin anchor to adjust the "tamper resistant" carb screws!! Now it runs fine, but there's a burning plastic smell which I gather is the catalytic converter kicking in....just wondering if I remove the cat, will it be OK for the motor - the back pressure and that. Also are they worth anything? I know crims apparently steal the cats from under cars because of the platinum in them.
  16. Moral duty?????? :homy: (facepalm) Look - in the dinosaur days the CO2 concentration was five or six times higher than is is today. There was never a time in the earth's history when biodiversity was so rich, plant life so lush and general nature so abundant. All thanks to CO2. We are now in a CO2 famine. Plant life has been steadily sequestering CO2 and turning it into coal faster than fungal decomposition can release it back int the air. If things keep going this way all life will die out in five million years from CO2 starvation. The optimal CO2 levels for plant growth are five times higher than in ambient air...think about it. Humans evolved to liberate the trapped CO2 and give nature enough fuel to keep life on earth going for another few hundred million years. Like yr man said - we as a species are just a punctuation mark in the history of life on earth. Its our moral duty to nature to burn ALL the fossil fuels as quickly as possible.
  17. But - but - but Trump said there was a thousand year's worth of coal under N. America!! Well, who knows. The only other option if state controlled economies - in other words global communism, new world order. Don't want to go down that road, I'd rather we just kept doing what we do and when the good stuff runs out we'll transition to renewables - but on our own terms NOT the globalist's. Its a funny thing, belief. Ive been on both sides of the issue, and when you're on the "believing in APW" side, it all looks very convincing. The scientists are honest and ernest, the data is true and good. The deniers are kooks or moral degenerates. When you finally get to the other side you realise that the scientists are just paid shills, the data is twisted out of all recognition, and it feels so good to be free. But then you realise the agenda of the alarmists...and you get depressed.
  18. Might be something to your theory. But since the peak oil scare new reserves have been discovered (USA), extraction techniques have evolved and other sources of energy discovered, gas etc. Also there's still coal. Vast, vast fields of coal. All these finds, supplemented by green tech where appropriate, better infrastructure and more efficient vehicles and industry... Should keep us going for hundreds of years.
  19. The "climate scientists" are on the take. In the 70's they were predicting an ice age. Vostok core samples...nuff said. I used to believe in man made global warming too, eventually I opened my mind to hearing the other side, now I'm firmly convinced it's a communist plot. It took four or five years to make the mental transition. I don't blame anyone who still 'believes' but I'll not humour the idea any more, sorry guys.
  20. I've read that Aspen is mandatory in Sweden, ie. - illegal to use pump petrol in 2-stroke machines - ID be interested to know if this is true, and if it is, do the Swedes actually comply? Any Swedes on the forum?
  21. 1. Its the thin end of the wedge that will break apart the religion of AGW. 2. It will permit other nations to follow suite. 3. Not going to make any difference to the climate
  22. There's always been a 1%...personally I have no problem with a few holding most of the wealth - provided the rest of us have a sufficiency, the protection of law and order, and the freedom to earn as much or as little as we can or want to, by the honest work of our hands. Let the rich eat cake, I'm happy with bread. It's guillotine time when the rich take away half your loaf and give it to those who won't work....
  23. Cheers, nice to be appreciated!
