  1. Using pro biactive? It ain't cheap!!!!
  2. A "paint brush" nozzle.
  3. Charlieh - never been a fan of mechanised planting. New trees deserve more than that
  4. That aint a drive. Its a main road!! NINJA - If it's there, take it!! (Plus the beat-up!!)
  5. Yup, the end of season rush. Gotta love it!!! Only 6 months till it all starts again Will, that looks a nice job, planting in the rip!! Planting bare root syc last week which were in leaf. Could be a nice beatup!!
  6. Or just persistence with the Glyphosate. Perennial weed = multiple hits!!
  7. Hi, I am always looking for people with some experience in the establishment sector. Planting, spraying and spacing of new trees. PA1 PA6A, brushcutter, saw ticket, CSCS, EFAW. Please send details to [email protected] Very hard to find suitable people at the moment!!!!!
  8. Home - Thorndene Forestry Any comments welcome. Firewood section needs tweaking though!!
  9. Must be a big woodland!!!
  10. If you do decide to cut it as short as possible, it's best to wait a week or so after for it to recover. Fresh green growth absorbs the chemical much better. From then on, it'll be ok to cover after 3 days (minimum). This is assuming it's a good quality chemical and good coverage!!! Regards.
  11. Are there any other tree planters on here?? Has everyone finished planting yet??
  12. Agreed. Anything Glyphosate based.
  13. However, that post was not aimed at you specifically!
  14. Technically, yes. But only if you are a frequent user. For infrequent users, you need to prove you are on top of all current legislation and best practices. Don't wish to be pedantic, but, if HSE (God forbid) ever takes an interest in you, you need to be aware!! Also, the "for life" cannot surely last much longer, can it??!!?? IMO it's only a short while before 'refresher' courses are mandatory due to new equipment and the constant changing of available chemicals. Regards.
  15. PA1 + PA6 A allows for hand held spraying. Its a 4 day course and not worth doing unless you can generate enough work. Spraying without a ticket will (eventually) catch you out. Not worth the risk IMO. Regards.
  16. In a pruned Oak.
  17. Hi Has anyone got any views or experience with these?? I have some jobs which they may be useful for but don't know how practical/user friendly they are. One of the jobs is using them for spots where the crop is very susceptible to spray (guards on the lance isn't an option). The other job is catching bracken once it out grows the crop. I realise they will be slow to use, but slow is better than dead trees!!!! Any replies welcome!!!!
  18. 1. Beech (leaves on lower branches) 2. Silver birch 3. A gnarly Ash???? 4. Garrya 5. Photinia 'Red Robin; 6. A cherry or Sycamore?? 7. Stem looks like Himalayan Birch. Branches - Rowan. Dunno!!
  19. Hi I used Solo sprayers for years and thought they were ok compared to the CPs we had before. Last year I bought a Stihl sprayer to try. I now have 8 of them. Brilliant bits of kit. Comfier, better designed, not expensive and practical. IMO. They did a full season with no problems whatsoever. Hope that sways you
  20. What about going in with a knapsack and spraying out unwanted areas. Heck of a lot quicker than a brushcutter. Cheaper too!!
  21. Ok, ok, 'brushcutter'. Thanks all, I'll have a look for Echo dealers round here.
  22. Hi. Can anyone tell me why Husky strimmers have become cheaper than Stihl?? I have 2 FS410s and am looking to buy another 4 strimmers. I used the Husky 545 a while back and really liked it. Better balanced and lighter, but went for Stihl purely based on cost. As it is now Husky that's cheaper, I think i'll go with them!!! Is this shift to do with the intro of 4 strokes?? Is there a catch as to why they are now cheaper?? Any advice greatly appreciated!! Thanks.
