  1. I'm In Poncy E-Cig charged and lozenges in jacket pocket ready for tomorrow. Its that early morning cig that ill really miss About time though.
  2. I'll try it tomorrow and see which one annoys her the most. Think it will be the router like you say as it does scream.
  3. Hi All Getting in grief from the other half and the neighbours due to noise from man cave. What do you guys do to soundproof your workshops? I'm not using massive machines etc, just a router, sander, drill (normal hand held tools). I've seen some deadening material but costs a fortune. Any help greatly appreciated (especially if its not gonna cost a fortune and keeps me out of the bad books)
  4. Wish I had the minerals to do this. Thought of hanging 100ft in the air though is enough to get me feeling dizzy. Never mind doing it. Good to see how you do it though
  5. I bet it does. Once sanded and oiled up I bet it will look gorgeous though.
  6. Now that's a good looking table. Would love something like that but not now I'm married. The amount of time I move the existing furniture for her this would kill me lol
  7. First time I'm seen what a stump grinder can do. Was well impressed. Thought they would have put you the other side near the old mill set up. The boy soon got over it dragging me to see the chickens (4 times)
  8. Seen you (Gray git) at the Reeth show. Wanted to see you using the mill but had my little un with me and he panicked when the chipper started up lol. Wouldn't let me come over again without screaming lol
  9. WOW. Where do you get that from?
  10. I think ill just one of the boards as a practise and see what works best for me. I can see if they do get tighter as it dries and figure out how to aim off for it. Every days a school day
  11. lol I didn't pick the best title then
  12. Whats the best way to make the inserts? Have you rounded them off with a belt sander?
  13. Lol already using those Think I'm drying out to quick too never mind the wood
  14. I'm just after stopping the boards from splitting. At the moment I have around 4 boards that have split about 4-5" The boards haven't been cut for long so are still high in moisture
  15. Firstly that table looks great. Do you use them before the timber is fully dry or wait?
  16. I did the same for well over an hour. Do you think they go the full depth of the wood? I'm just wondering if it would work if the wood was clamped tight before cutting out the shape in the board, then hammering in the bow tie shape. Guess best to practise on a wrecked board first I suppose
  17. Hi all. After some advice. I have some 2" boards (elm) that have started to split while drying. Once they have dried what is the best way to try and fix them? I have seen a Dutchman joint video on youtube but not sure if this will work as they seemed to be doing it for decoration. I have a pile of sapele off cuts and thought these would be a nice contrast. Question is, would this joint with the use of several sash clamps knit the split together? Any advice very welcome. If this is in wrong area please let me know as wasn't sure

  19. Just recieved a pallet of the Elm and Sycamore today from Big J. Some very nice colouring to the Elm. Thanks for making it so easy as I've never bought timber like this before. Cheers
  20. Just a quick one. I picked up a cheap lathe to try some wood turning a while back. It has a face plate but no chuck grabby thing like I've seen on here. (only a basic machine mart number) I figure that I screw the blank to the plate to do the base of the bowl first. How do I fasten it to the face plate again to turn the inside without leaving screw holes in the base? Glue? I have large blanks in case that matters. (around 15-16") Any advice would be great. Have a day without wife and son tomorrow so want to have a go. (lathe has been sat in shed since son was born lol)
  21. Yeah I saw that earlier on. Again great looking and I've played with beech before. You have dining room table size boards (I only need a coffee table size at moment as trying this out) What kind of price does a table size board command? How long would it take to dry out properly? Sorry as I said I'm a novice at best lol
  22. 20 year old brake fluid from a classic VW dripped between both eyes. Because it was both eyes couldn't do patches so squinted for 3 days. Sunlight was a killer. Also got a spruce needle stuck in left eye carrying tree home for Christmas lol. That really hurt. Hope it gets better soon mate
  23. Cheers Ian. Ill find him and give him a yell
  24. Hi all. After viewing some of the things made on here I fancy a go myself. I'm looking for a piece of elm or spalted beech large enough to make a coffee table. (around 1m in wide/length approx.) Some of the timber on show here looks gorgeous so thought I would try my luck. I'm up in the north east so ideally would need to be sent via courier unless close enough. I've never done this before so all advice welcome. I'm a new member so wondered if this is something you guys could help me with?
