  1. Quite right Village Idiot! Also what in the blue hell makes you think I would travel all that way, having met you on an internet forum to do work? You could be an axe murdering maniac for all I know!
  2. Thanks all, really great to read all your encouraging posts, totally appreciated! Had a great weekend working for Dan. Really liked staying on the farm and seeing the baby goats too! Doing a freebie for the experience tomorrow, a tree reduction, early start but looking forward to it. Learn't a lot this weekend, great stuff :-)
  3. Crumbs! thats a touch too good to pass up, if you could message me exact details I could say yay or neigh in the next half hour. Do I need to take my chainsaw, food/ tea situation? Address and your phone number. Thanks!
  4. I'm half tempted. The 4 hour drive back Sunday night puts me off a little, I'll message you!
  5. hum, the kitchen comment springs to mind among many others. I'm not saying I'm victim at all. I'm pretty lucky. If you read this thread you will see reference to women not being strong etc. I could go on but i think you may be biting me a little. I can't be bothered to argue the toss. A few sexist remarks have definitely been made in this post. I have not reported them or kicked up a fuss to Arbtalk. If you can't identify there's a problem that it's not a refection on me.
  6. That sounds lovely. I think that's the way to go really. You don't want to stand out or look to quirky in a camper once night has fallen. It probably makes the interior feel even more special. I think the muddy field scenario is fairly generic, I wouldn't point the finger at vaxhaull. Would love to see a pic when your ready!
  7. Oh Village, I'd stop mentioning his trousers if I were you!

  9. Thanks mate, it's much appreciated to get support from fellow Arborists. I'm hoping in a few years time no one will think a woman incapable of becoming a good Arborist. Its good workers like me and your lass that really help. I think most folk on Arbtalk are pretty spot on and it's great to be part of it. I can stick up for myself but it gets a bit tiring trying to justify why I want to do a ' mans job'.
  10. Sounds great. bit to far for me. Theres a nice little stone circle called long meg near me. I won't be there in the morning however. I'm fresh out of tin foil hats. Used up all my foil covering my ceilings and walls in the stuff. As long as I lie in the middle of my floor and don't move I am untraceable.
  11. Great advice, hopefully I will keep that in mind to make sure I'm still on the right track. Although I'm still at college I'm starting my own free lance business now. My business plan should get o.k ed in the next month or so. I have basic kit so its just a case of insurance and bagging my climbing certs. I would like to take on piece work as a self employed climber. I want to meet some of you nice arbtalkers up and down the country. I like to live quite humbly as I'm not keen on shopping, ornaments, big tellys etc.I have a small cabin in the woods and I plan to chainsaw carve sculptures. I sell some already.I have a BA Hons degree in art and sculpture so I'll be o.k. Thats it really. I don't aspire to a mortgage or a fancy truck. I want to travel the country, live life for the now, meet you nice folk and work with wood. I'm already living out my plan to some extent. I'm sure I will start to charge more, get more work and get better at carving.I know it doesn't sound like everyone's dream but it's mine :-)
  12. Yes, it is. I suppose you could say its a lot for a volunteer tho lol! I started an arb course at college in sept 2014. Its a 2 year extended diploma. I drive minibuses for the college for 8 hours per week and am a self employed arborist/ sculptor to make ends meet- well they don't quite but hey ho. I sell small chainsaw sculptures- simple ones as I just started. I do some small fell and cross cutting work and I charge £40 for 8 hours work and unpaid break. I get some work from local tree surgery businesses where I get to see them tackle larger jobs and use rigging techniques. I don't do rigging at college till next year so it is useful to me, and all the lads are absolute diamonds. I'm not sniffing at the pay as I get what I'm given. My experience is next to nothing. All I ment was that £75 is a small fortune to me! And to get shown what to do, rather than use common sense! I work my socks off no matter what the job is. All my life my references have been that they want me back! This is the first time I've followed my dreams and I'm doing something I absolutely love, this time next year I'll be loaded!lol. I'm 30 so my minimum wage is around £6.50. I am underselling myself a touch maybe. If you have any advice for me I'm all ears!!
  13. £75 per day 8-5? I would do that gladly! I have some relevant certs, Have own PPE, climbing gear and Chainsaw. I work hard and steady all day long and try and keep everyone else's spirits high! I'm never late. I earn £20- £40 per day, depending on who I work for. I am not an apprentice. Unfortunately I live in Northumberland, doh! I'm at college right now but if you have any work in the Easter holidays I'll come down and bring my tent!
  14. Cheeky wee midden! Seriously tho, learn to deal with it. Women are just as good at arb, even if some of you don't recognize this yet. May be when I'm winning all the climbing prizes at the arb show and using a chainsaw without whinging that 'I've done my back in' I might get some respect. I don't need my greatness to be recognized, i'm safe in the knowledge I'm pretty much Mary Poppins!
  15. Hi, I'm supposed to be up a tree but instead I'm fixing my car and feeling rubbish. Any one else using todays weather as a scape goat for things going wrong? Apparently the fog is full of smog and ming from Europe. Tomorrow theres a new moon ans equinox and eclipse. I've decided I'm a lunatic and everything will magically be great tomorrow.....
  16. What sort of van is it? I've always been a fan of the old merc. 709s etc. I've been driving brand spanking new ford double wheel base trannys at work and I can't say there any better despite there youth. I'm a rat look/ banger fan tho so my opinion is tainted!
  17. Nice. Split charge relay is what you need so you don't flatten the main bat. Words from one who knows!
  18. I'm considering a water mill. There are some more cabins- all different about a mile away from mine and solar seems to be the fail safe. There is no stream by those ones tho. I have no money and even less time at the moment so my dreams are on hold until I finish my course and can start full time work!
  19. Yup, I'm a luckey lady. Plan to build something a little more substantial when I have time and just live there. Theres a nice little burn running through and some lovely broadleaved trees. Compost loo and no lecy don't sit to well with my son tho!
  20. The spliced eye is to put a carabiner through and attach it to your harness. I'd do a video demo but I'm no techno wizard, also it's a practical thing so you need to be able to try it and ask questions really. I'd be happy to give a free day and show anyone who wanted to know how to tree climb. We'd have to take turns on my kit tho. Unfortunately I'm in northumberland which is a stones through from nowhere. If your passing this part of the country I am more than happy to teach you all the basic climbing techniques!
