  1. For you RoI based experts. Is one allowed to burn tree cuttings as a result of clearings some windblown and felling some conifers? Conifers (sitka spruce) are situated in a rear garden, about 12 in number, are 30 years old, some are down due to winter storms, others just need to be felled.
  2. 1. I would suggest that the boundary and ownership issues are sorted first. 2. If it is concluded that not yours, or shared ownership (??), or encroaching on neighbour, then speak to the other party to try to understand their view. 3. Then you can consider getting the arb expert in, consulting TO, planning etc.
  3. Going back to the original query. If looking at one's home, surely one should avoid any boundary which includes trees, hedges, etc. which have shared ownership. It will be a nightmare. From personal experience, and owning mature hawthorn/field maple hedges, it can sometimes be hardwork to prevent neightbours from hacking awy (even those parts which do not infringe on their propery.
  4. Tree ownership: Who owns the boundary hedge? You may have to track through old titles deeds to establish this. If you've not bought the sited, then get this sorted as part of the conveyancing. Proximity of build to tree: If you were a developer, then IMHO you can go as close as you like; they get away with it! Dilemma: Do you speak to your Local Authority Tree Officer, or not? If you do, he may apply for a TPO on said tree. Tree condition: you don't state this. Is it a good specimen, or not worth keeping?
  5. What SWL rating was it?
  6. I get similar aphid effects on my apple trees. As other post...............use soap and water as soon as aphids appear to minimise leaf damage. Repeat applications may be required (especially in the present weather conditions). But what impact does the soap have on the natural aphid predators (lady birds and ants)?
  7. Also: - get on to one of your local councillors. I have found them to be very ferret like in TPO and planning matters when the council appears to drag their feet - you say 5 gardens are affected. Do any of the other 4 feel like you? Get them involved. The more pressure the better.
  8. Any after-effects of handling the ivy? Take any precaoutions for such? cheers
  9. Here's a very simple Excel spreadhseet that I've used before. Feel free to play and adjust. Tree Trunk Dimensions 1 etc.xls
  10. About 15 years ago, for under a swing / climbing frame, I got some rubber matting that's used in stables (1m square x ~50mm). I think I paid about £15 each back then. Was considering using bark / wood chip but could just imagine it all over the lawn after each visit to the swing. These are robust and as good as new. Now just stacked in a corner:001_rolleyes:
