  1. sealing the ends should help.
  2. Thanks a lot appreciate it
  3. Hey ya, so far I have only made them for friends that have approached me for one, they're totally hand made, and it takes awhile, I don't want a lot of people asking for them at the moment cause I have a lot of other work to do too, that said I'm not making one at the moment and I would do a few if people want them price wise I can't charge less than £250-300 depending on spec due to the hours that go into it at the moment, eventually I am planning to set up a few machines to make things quicker, but at the moment it's 20+ hours going into each knife. Regards. Rune.
  4. thanks guys, yeah I make the whole thing sheath too
  5. Thought people might be interested to see a couple of the knives I've made recently. They're O1 steel and yew handles.
  6. yeah do check it over, wish i'd had a closer look at mine would never have paid for it if i had.. yeah that's how it goes with landys isn't it!
  7. hope your 461 experience is better than mine so far got mine with a 25 and I'm gunna go with a 20" for it too when/if it's all sorted. nice landy

ah yeah, it's a pretty small dealer, I think if stihl don't sort out a replacement with out too much agro I'm gunna be out for a refund then work out what I'm going to get to replace it, annoyingly I didn't closely inspect the saw before cutting with it or it'd probably be easier, though trading standards say that goods must be of good quality and finish when sold and that isn't good finish.

PDI? will see what happens when the dealer gets the crap one back going to talk to stihl when I see their report.

Just been in and spoke to the dealer and he says that stihl say it's fine because it works.... the dealer agrees it's wrong and says he's never seen a cylinder that bad, apparently they are sending the saw back with a report then I'm gunna call stihl my self, they should watch out or they'll have another husky convert... as I said to the dealer it's like buying a ferrari and opening the bonnet to a craply cast and finished engine.. imo it's a second and should never have made it out of the factory, and tbh i'm surprised that stihl would want it out there. not good not happy.. at the price point of these saws it should be perfect. at least the dealer agrees it's wrong should help....
  14. have you looked at the lumbermate? love ours, don't think they make the same one anymore we have the 2000 but the new ones are probably even better, I think it is in your price range with some options.
  15. sounds good, must be easier to run little engines than car ones haha, bet it's much nicer to work around than a petrol anyway, I'd thought about converting a bandsaw mill at one point but it's out in the open and don't use it enough to bother really.
  16. Dunno what it's like on small engines, but I converted my old landy to LPG and it works by having a liquid gas line to a reducer that warms the gas vaporises it and regulates the flow based on suction from the engine and RPM by way of an electrical feed from the coil.
  17. I just got a pair, size 46 same as all my other shoes and boots, and they seem to be a perfect fit

yeah I thought that too about dirt.. the guy at the dealer agreed it wasn't good anyway so I think it'll all turn out ok in the end..

some of the inside is machined, the ports aren't.. anyway as I said it's a top end pro saw and it should be much better than this and hopefully they'll replace it with out any fuss, the crap casting aside the saw is great and I've never had a bad experience with stihl so far so fingers crossed for a good service..

as I said, it's clearly a casting defect and if the surface on the outside is why would it be any better on the inside? just got back from the dealer, who agreed it doesn't look right and said it looks corroded (great right on a brand new top end saw) and took some photos to send the rep and said he'd get back to me soon, and to keep using the saw in the meantime and said hopefully it'll blow up... hm
