  1. Did you happen to post a pic on climbers online Facebook page a hour or so ago... Just seems a coincidence, I'm also guessing that's the lad in question, just enquiring
  2. My zigzag mk2 has cracked and has been sent off too petzel.... Never abused it or anything.. Bloody thing just gonna stick with the hitchclimber set up
  3. Hey mate what chip is it? I live thatcham and my mrs yard might have the lot and it's only in thatcham... Would be free to dump as well let me know, I might have a farmer as well who might be interested
  4. You need a C1 license if it has a trailer over 750kg a C1E in old money it's a class 3 license
  5. There is nothing quite like gaffing your climbing line, done it once now I do what you do with running it through a Krab! Nice work though chap
  6. Easy standard planting with no beating through concrete probably about 250-300
  7. It's just a load of crap for me to deal with, I am going to go down the small claims court line if I have to. I am not going to walk away with nothing if I can help it Oh and I really appreciate your help on this matter guys it really is a learning curve!
  8. I also do have clearly in the message sent and I quote "this quote is for the FRONT garden only" which is also in caps lock!
  9. The thing is its a bit regardless of the price if it's £5 or £5000 it's the point that I do a full detailed quote (more so then normal) if they didn't like the price they wouldn't have to accepted the work in the first place. People don't think of what's involved in pricing I know for a fact I'm not the cheapest around but our work is always completed to a very high standard and we have all the licences, insurances, equipment etc etc you all know the score If I did ask her she would probably say £20 or something stupid might be worth a laugh though!
  10. I'm not actually going to dump anything there it's not worth my time. The thing that really really winds me up is the fact that they are saying I was not there long.. It's a pointless argument if you paid 3 grand for a kitchen and it took 1 day to fit would you not pay as it took 1 day even though the job is to spec.
  11. No signature sadly, even if she did for it to hold legally I believe it needs a impartial witness to sign as well, just going to have to write off, was going towards sign writing for the truck as well... Oh well working Sunday it is!
  12. Exactly what my old man said, just winds me right up need to vent it somewhere
  13. Alright guys, il cut straight to the chase I was at a customers property today doing some hedge cutting on a few shrubs just a general tidy up and spraying some weeds on the driveway. Now then the problem, obviously prior too work starting I viewed the job and supplied a written quote via email, which I have a copy and stating that I would only cut the front hedge and not do work round the back (for time reasons etc) and to spray the weeds around the front. Now then the person in question is Asian of some description I think Thai (unsure) and speaks ok English, now then I put the quote in clear terms highlighting more then once that I would only be doing the front. Anyway I complete the job to spec cleared away all the trimmings and sprayed off the weeds, but is now refusing to pay the invoice as apparently I was only there a hour or so (which is regardless as I quoted for the job not hourly or day rate) and the job was quite out of my way. Now then where do I stand with getting them to pay up, I have had my business partner see the completed work and he agrees it's completed properly (they aren't saying the works bad or anything that's the thing..). I'm sure I don't have a legal leg to stand on... It's not masses of money but it's nt the point, also they are trying to cause me of taking advantage of a foreigner... I have no problem with anyone and the price would be same if they were English... Sorry for the wall of text, I've only been in business for 6 months and this is the first and properly not the last of this nature, as we have a good reputation... Cheers for your views. Jamie
  14. I have the 755 21inch and it's brilliant.., weighs a blinking ton though! Cuts quickly, looks good and you can have a mulching deck for it which is very useful.
  15. My harness is a skylotec love it super comfortable feels nice and secure and dosent weigh a metric ton can't ask for more
  16. Don't worry too much I did mine a few months back and I was done pretty quick.. Just rember when you get a tree hung up don't walk behind the butt, don't walk about without putting the chain brake on etc... It's silly things but don't over think... One of the chaps I did it with did all of the above due too nerves but the assessor could see he was competent as when he did the above he asked him what are you doing wrong and he responded... Don't worry about being perfect just be confident in your ability
  17. Unless you know what your doing don't start climbing chap, if it goes all Pete tong and the top falls the wrong way or you slip etc and you haven't got any ropes it's gonna fast drop too the ground. But if it is a leylandii they are fine too top... Or better too remove as they are bloody horrible
  18. Just got some standard portwest work gloves comfy and do the job!
  19. To the dismay of the mrs I lock all my saws in my house along with hedge cutters and climbing kit... I leave combi tool gear in the car. The chipper I lock too the floor in my garage which is also locked and the trailer I have a DVLA wheel clamp and a tow hitch lock on it. Also the whole place is under CCTV and a 10 foot gate! You could still nick it but you would have too try bloody hard!
  20. Nice. Really controlled descent especially of the lower limbs with the other line, good quality video too. Top job
  21. Which tickets are you doing, if your only doing 30,31 etc (ground based) you only need type A too keep the college/assessor happy. If your climbing they like you too have type C. I would go to a decent shop and try some as some fit and feel better then others. For example the stihl hi-flex type c ones are quite nice and coolish but seem too rip with ease which is annoying as they won't like that and neither will your wallet. The main problem you have is that your like me about average so it's normally bob hope no hope getting any of flea bay. Usually a shop is the way to go, also rember your legs are worth a lot of money too
  22. I must admit I don't have a lot of sympathy for drink drivers, my old man owns a recovery firm with a police contract... Only the other week a car came in driven by a drink driver who hit some poor fella... Needless too say it was a fatality. I don't mind if they hurt themselves it's their own fault, but when others are involved it's not their fault and it's even worse when they drive there next morning after a massive binge up the night before then plead ignorance. No I don't drink my self just in case someone has a dig
  23. Thought I might stick my nose and put my 2 cents in. As a former apprentice (in the motor trade) I was mega grateful for the job, getting paid was just a bonus, I really didn't care what the money was as long as I could pay my rent and eat I was just happy too do the job! Regardless I didn't like it much just wanted a trade, I got qualified and left the trade but am still grateful for the opportunity in the first place! I find now that I started up on my own and have 2 apprentices one in horticulture side one in arb I find that they seem too think that they deserve the world straight away.... They want too be climbing and doing all the fun stuff, and moan that they drag brash. It's not forever just while they learn the ropes I'm happy too let them have a climb when we have a shorter day or use a saw etc. I'm not going too go into a massive moan off about it, just no patience these days. Also djvicke I was in the same position as you (about 2 years ago) I'm roughly your age 27 and was in grounds maintenance. Never really enjoyed it and loved arb, so I saved up done my tickets, bought all the ropes and went out on my own... Just keep saving and have that goal in mind! You will get there believe me
