  1. Can anyone enlighten me on the law with regard to what can be towed with or without a tacho. I was under the impression that if you had passed your test pre 1997(B and E on license) then you could tow with a train weight above 3.5 tonnes and without a tacho as long as you kept within a radius of 50 km and you wern't actually hauling goods for reward, hence towing chipper for work was ok. Anyone point me to definitive guidelines on web etc would be very gratefull.
  2. Thanks for the comments. Will have a play at various techniques. At least I now know it won't necessarily be certain death to try these things.
  3. Is it not acceptable to use two friction hitches to go up a single or static "Doubled " line. I can see why you would have to descend on a figure of eight but not why it is unsafe to ascend with prussic/sling to harness and foot loop on another sliding hitch..? Sure I will be put right. Thanks
  4. Just been asked to remove sections of plantations for development. Some is semi mature Pine and some (most) is Ash maple etc (average diameter 12") but planted in lines as a plantation with mainly straight stems. Seems a shame to cut it all into chunks but all the loggers are in Oregon arn't they..? Anybody know of any Companies in the Midlands that would be interested in taking the full length trunks
  5. Normal lead in time for house builder site agent.....
  6. How does it work if the land is awaiting ultimate development. Surely the replanting requirement would be covered by the final planning approval, clause 106 is it ..? (or something like that)
  7. Just work vertically..? Is there some instruction somewhere on these techniques..?? can you work vertically in the outer crown of the tree Have no idea about SRT work positioning..just thought it was an access means
  8. You can buy 50 mts of Marlow double braid 12mm for £67 from Gustarts. Look on line They have 14mm for £99 50 mts that is
  9. I've got a 35 mt climbing rope and a 50 mt 12 mm rigging rope. I use the rigging rope as a pull line when required, sometimes with a 3-1 MA set up. My question is.. A.... Is it ok to use a rigging rope as a pull line...obviously no stretch is required for pulling but may be some stretch in the rope is necessary when your dropping big branches.....chunks of butt etc. Never see any specific pull lines for sale on the retail sites. B.... If rigging lines are normally less elastic...should I use my rigging line for limited SRT/footlocking (doubled static rope) rather than my normal climbing line that I use for dynamic climbing system. If I tell her indoors I got to buy another rope (kernmantle or whatever) then I may end up hanging from it
  10. This is my harness. Is anyone familiar with this type...just read that there is a dedicated saw attachment clip at the back which should be used as it pulls the harness on tighter rather than having it pulled off with a saw hanging off the side gear loop. Any one know if its the top loop (just webbing 1st aid kit attached at mo) or the lower plastic tubed one...or if it even matters. Also what is the webbing eye for.. its similar to rock harness....is it ever used instead of bridge ring Finally small D rings on leg loops for what..? Photos below..?
  11. Thanks for all replies. When I do it I'll put some pictures up and let you know how I got on
  12. Picked one up in the shop yesterday. So light I am tempted to get one as my first top handle climbing saw. I know it hasn't got the power of others but I was tempted. Any views..?
  13. Thanks All...by the way ..how do I insert a pic...it keeps asking for a URL ? can't I just browse my files..? Also great site.... just asked my first question and had lots of replies in so short a time...I love the internet...!!!
  14. Didn't think Shindaiwa were such a bad make. I have an old 488 16 inch and it seems to be simple reliable and does the job
  15. Hi all Got 2 re pollards to do. LA officer insists only re pollard to previous points. Its a Plane and a lime but there are just 3 or 4 vertical spars which burst into shoots at the top. I usually do dismantles with spikes and this one is making me think a bit. Maybe install line with throw bag, get up there and put a sling around the trunk as a foothold..? I'd put a picture up but not worked out how yet lol cheers
