  1. My weapons of choice are 560 and 372
  2. Buy Honda. Tried and tested for years. I'd go for a foreman 500 manual. Try and pick up the single rear shock version. It's more stable than the twin shock.
  3. You need to find an old style metal one with the chain/plunger inside. The plastic guns are hopeless.
  4. I'm currently on 8150 which was an upgrade from 6400. I tow a botex 560tl and euro12 14 trailer. I find it wee bit clumsy in wood compared to the 6400 due to its size. I do a lot of road work these days so it does burn through the fuel. I'm up and down the a9 and feel the 8150 is abit underpowered for that. New tractor next year will be t131 with the tuning chip fitted to around 170hp
  5. We had a brand new 5150 pro with the pump opened up. If memory serves me right it's slides in the pump that you change. I reckon we got her up to 180ish
  6. Eurosport had the best coverage, so did sky when they had it. I'm not sold on the bt coverage yet.
  7. Road speed is the only advantage I found. I've tried one with a botex fitted and it was hopeless in the forest. Fine for road sides and fields.
  8. Wind and snow. So much for the first day of spring ⛄️
  9. Navara will go bang. Conrods snap. Isuzu has the best towing capacity is out of the pick ups. Personally hilux. I can't fault mine.
  10. Our 3120 was bought brand new in 1990 or 91 and the estate paid £795 for it. 3120 isaround double that now.
  11. I'd do it by day. We work in team of 3 we'll do at a pure guess 2-3 acres a day but I'd need to check my diary tomorrow to give you a defiant answer. Our restock sites are terrible really steep so it makes it slow work. The main chemical used now a days is forester. Mix rate is 20ml chemical per 1lt water. It goes on at 10-20ml diluted per tree... Or rough scoosh lol I can get the price of 5 ltrs tomorrow when I'm in the office.
  12. Labour costs I can't help you with as I'm an estate forester. It is labour extensive process tho. chemical cost I can give you a rough idea. How many trees per hectare are planted?
  13. Price for chemical or labour or both.
  14. In my opinion auto tune has improved the rev band. (Bloody iPhone)
  15. I'm sure what way husky will go design wise tobe honest. But they do seem to be going for the 550/60/ 76 design. the 555 is a good example of that. 372 etc has been round for a good few years now and they could be next to be discontinued and replaced. 357 went as soon as the 560 arrived. I thought when 576 arrive 372 would be gone. A 595/5120 wouldn't be a bad design. In my opinion has the auto tune definitely improved the rev band.
  16. A replacement for the 3120xp is interesting. Hopefully it will be a wee bit lighter. I think the 395 and 3120 are abit dated now. Still brilliant saws but need a new design that's less chunky and cumbersome.
  17. If you were behind that load I think you'd struggle to see your beacons on the tractor. You should really have a beacon on the trailer. I'd be strapping every load that goes on the road weather it's below the bolsters or not. If a log slips off you'll never know it's happened.I run up and down the A9 with the valtra and botex. We would be pulled for a load unstrapped and obscured beacons.
  18. James jones. Being In the central belt there maybe lorrys looking to bulk up loads depending on where you are.
  19. The 560 would be my choice. It cuts like fury. Plus plenty poke to handle bigger bars if needed. I've only had one big issue which was chain oil leaking do to a faulty gasket in the casing. Apparently some of the early ones Didn't have the casing bolts torqued up correctly in the factory. Mine has had the compleat casing replaced under warranty.
  20. The valtra's are hardy tractors. As stated already hours doesn't really matter as long as it's been looked after and well serviced. Our 2003 8150 is currently on 9000hrs and it's never really let us down. I know of a valmet 8050 with over 14000 hrs on it and chugs away all day long. The older valtra's are pretty basic so there's not much to go wrong.
  21. The set up I have is a Charnwood country 16b stove running 6 radiators and the hot water. We still have an immersion fitted to the hot water tank for use in the the summer when the stove isn't on. Roughly I reckon we use about 10-12 tons of firewood a year to run it. When you buy a stove go for a good brand stay clear of cheaper ones they'll give you no end of trouble.
  22. With my 560xpg I've had issues with the spring in stop/choke switch jumping off and knocking off the wee spade connecter on the side of the carb. Also I've had a bad earth on it leaving it dead. Ive never used the decomp there's no need to its not like the 3120 or the 395.
