  1. cool 5 tickets for me! nice to be part of something that will make a difference to children less fortunate than I was.
  2. :laugh1:I have my own Public Liability ins and have my own business. But when subbing for another tree firm to climb for them, where would I stand say if I cut down a TPO tree or squished a greenhouse?
  3. Freelance self-employed climber with 6inch chipper and tools available S/W will travel to all of Cornwall, South Devon possibly Exeter and South Wales. Cheers! Anthony 07981347747 [email protected]
  4. Ha, sand lube Sounds daunting, Ive done a few quotes that where for a weeks worth of work and its nuts how sometimes you get caught out by the volume of work the disposal or large amounts of ringing up. I would be concerned about the deduction on the pay when it was blatantly their fault you couldn't get in for stump grinding. Though the asbestos thing may catch you out if its in the contract small print. All in all its a load of old bollocks and thank you for raising awareness. Ill be on my toes if I quote for a construction company or any big firm at that.
  5. For a sole trader you need a waste carriers licence? Even for chip and logs? I tip off at various farms, I never charge for the tip as its doing me a favour till I have a yard. What is the license all about and does it cost? For the main thread, The dad should register as a sole trader also, then if he does get paid eventually he can be legit. If he becomes a partnership then he can take drawings(thus not needing a steady wage). Don't forget that Drawings are part of the businesses' taxable PROFIT, so you need to account for the tax ready for the tax year end. Just aim to cover your overheads get the first year sorted and hope for the best..... that's what I'm doing

  9. Marc.. yeah I wouldn't lower off it and most likely hardly use it but just learning to gauge weights.
  10. Yeah my hand looks small bad angle lol. Attatch with sling and krab or prussik and krab maybe?
  11. Ok question. I asked my instuctor if I could use a micro pulley (see pictures below) could take my weight as an anchor point (nb im note a fatty before you quip). He said no? Ive been researching loads for my 41 assessment and from what I found drew up the below table. Rarely will a piece fall 9.81 so I erred on the side of caution and just used a multiplication factor of 10m/s. So from what I gather I could lower max 1.5 ton on a micro pulley if static no free fall. I weigh less than a ton so surley I can use it as an anchor?
  12. Amey have a yard in bishops Waltham maybe you can tip there.
  13. I wanted to take the 41 to get some clarity and in the case of a juicy takedown I would have peace of mind that I could risk assess it and feel safe. Ive been climbing 6 years and I have a decent guage on weights and try to cut twice rather than risk an epic fail. Winge over.
  14. Tbh ive a bit of a gripe about the training I received. Was just practical, no theory. The teacher was very old school and pretty much said guess it.
  15. Pictures of your log piles. Jobs only not yards!
  16. Did my first zipline yesterday on my 41...... oohhh I loved it. I like how rigging adds more control. Annoys me when people try and do things *****! Seems sometimes the arb industry finds it hard to move on. Suprised ladders and fall arrest harnesses managed to get fazed out sometimes. Would really like some info on gauging weights though. Everyone talks about things in KG but kit is rated by KN.
