    Any ideas??

Managed to get a few pics of the aftermath sent to me, apparently some of the branches pierced straight through the roof and where 6ft into the tv room! Anyway they had a tornado warning in the area so high winds coupled with some rot equals tree fall down. If course it flattened my mates cottage but missed his neighbours who's cottage was directly under the natural lean of the tree!haha sods law

Just incase you wanted to know how this one panned out, the tree came down last night and landed on a cottage! I didn't get a chance to inspect the damage or have a look at the roots but there was a tornado warning in the area and the guys up there think it may have been hit by lightning. Just last week based on the advice you guys gave me I said it would prob have to come down, nature beat me too it!
  6. Sorry that's completely off topic, just realized. My bad, sorry tony!
  7. By any chance did you have a skin reaction to the walnut?? I took one down on Thursday and gave me lots of tiny blisters all over my arms and marks on my face. Apparantly the sap is toxic in black walnuts and has been known to do this, obviously I only found this out after doing the work!
  8. I got into the industry not for a love of trees but as I couldn't get a job in engineering. Once I saw the first climber up a 30m ash tree I knew what I wanted to do! When I first started climbing I would have done any work to a tree regardless of the impact on the tree, that has definitely changed over the years. I'd say the more you work with them the more you appreciate them, I enjoy the work and they're 'the work.'

    Any ideas??

Thanks a lot guys that really helps!! There is no root plate lifting at all and I noticed some other pines that had the same lean but it was only the bigger ones. I was thinking it could maybe be wind but hard to tell. Some of the other roots have had some damage from lawnmowers so this is prob how it got opened up for infection. Cheers again!

  15. I'm working just outside of Toronto in a place called Milton, no it was a pretty big silver maple and put a branch about 6ft into his kitchen...we just turn up and make it safe, no clean up required!! It's pretty nuts I should have got a few photos of the streets, looked like a tornado hit it!
  16. After a week in the 40's the weather has finally broke with a night of thunder storms, so I'm in today cleaning up after it...it's still in the low 30's bt a lot better than the last few days, we could only really work to 2pm then the guys started getting sick!!...some of the work today..
  17. 41 degrees with the humidity here outside of Toronto!!...forecast is pretty much the same for the rest of the week...and the mozzies aren't helping much either!
  18. Cheers Matt!...makes sense, I thought it was all going through the chipper!!...thanks for sharing
  19. Yea fair point, I've done a small bit of speed lining and my favourite bit was the trunk as it just takes off!!...like you say tho it's prob more hassle than its worth on this occasion..i take it its easier on your equipment than snatch lowering??
  20. Yea the stem, just wondering if you could have done it with nearly the whole stem right down to nearly the height of the shed or if you would need to much of a pull on the speed line to lift each section up...am I making sense??
  21. Just out of curiosity would you ever speed line the timber out or do you think it would be too hard on the gear?
  22. Cracking job mate, I'm actually jealous it looked like fun
  23. Looked like a bit of a monster!...here's a few of the storm call outs we have been getting.. For the record that isn't me standing beside the cracked ash its my doofus of an apprentice! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  24. I was a lead climber on utility work for a couple of years, had a 3man team including myself, held permits, fitted earths and had all my certs. All for £8 an hour and I know it would have been another year before I saw any rise...they payed for all my certs and gear and were a great bunch of guys but the money was piss poor so I left. Seems to vary quite a bit over the country Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  25. Cheers Paul that helps a lot!!...had a look at that book, nearly £200 so I'm gonna have to see if my boss would be interested in it for the office!!
