  1. See my earlier link. Roundup doesn't 'vanish'
  2. Your current farming system may dictate you would need to charge 3 times as much if you didn't use chemicals. Yes, I can believe that.
  3. You already are.... http://ecowatch.com/2014/02/27/monsantos-roundup-found-in-75-of-air-and-rain-samples/
  4. It's also quite possible to grow enough food and quite possibly more than enough food without Roundup. Just not with current monoculture farm systems.
  5. if not weird then certainly ironic.... ie, they want to protect the public from Roundup yet it's okay for farmers to spray crops with Roundup and have the public eat the stuff. Weird and ironic!
  6. Dutch have banned Roundup for sale to the general public, yet still allowed to be used by farmers on crops, (weird). See article here: Dutch Parliament Bans Monsanto’s RoundUp Effective in 2015 Roundup to be banned in UK, ?....
  7. I believe when it comes to pesticides, (monsanto, Syngenta, roundup, etc) guidelines are worthless, at least when applied to habitat. Cheers, Steve
  8. Errr, maybe try reading my first post Kev
  9. Yes, up to 4 months is fine.... just need to block the light for long enough so that it buys us time to sort out the layers of top mulch. As above, we need the weed barrier to block light (and then rot away).... very similar to using cardboard. It sounds like you are trying for total weed eradication (by chemical warfare) whereas we are quite happy to have a controllable amount of 'weed' for the critters to live on. Thus we don't have to resort to using any chemicals. It's no joke... it does work. Just ask the billions of critters that live on our farm!
  10. I find i can only upload a single image into the comment post from the ipad. After uploading it to Arbtalk, I need to go back to the comment post and select the image via the drop down via the 'upload image link'. Hope this helps, and makes sense.
  11. Filled the Husky 550 up with Aspen4 this morning. Works a treat. No smoke, no nasty feeling at the back of the throat, no headaches and the saw started first or second pull. I can see why people use Aspen now. Yeah it's a lot more expensive but I think it's worth it. Cheers, steve
  12. This stuff sounds good, 'Ilex Bio Film Mulch' Ilex EnviroSciences Limited - Bio Film Mulch Gonna phone them to get prices.
  13. Tesco have a track record of moving money abroad and evading taxes.
  14. Probably similar mushrooms to the ones in our haylage paths.
  15. Thanks for confirming Eddie. Sorry I forgot your name. Cheers, steve
  16. Sounds promising. Who's the Aspen chap on the Arbtalk forum? Maybe he could advise....
  17. lovely thanks all.
  18. Have bought three cans of Aspen 4 for the chainsaw.... Husky 550Xpg The dealer wasn't sure if it's okay to add oil to the Aspen 4 to make it a 2 stroke mix (50:1). I've got a load of Stihl synthetic oil to get through which is why I went for Aspen4 instead of Aspen 2. Before I use it, just double checking; is it okay to add Stihl oil to Aspen 4? Cheers, Steve
  19. Looking for something to suppress weeds between our raised beds, for the paths - we have quite a big area to cover and bark type chips are too expensive. Is arb chip suitable? And safe? Cheers, steve
  20. The 500m roll of cornstarch seems not too bad on price compared with others (currently at £120 per roll). Cheers, steve
  21. Yeah, that's what I thought. And a big shame when Health & Safety policy trumps Recycling cardboard back into the natural environment
  22. What's a Tesco? Haven't shopped in one for years!
  23. I've tried Currys, Homebase, Wickes and a few others.... found that most don't allow access to the back of the store/or have small boxes. I've found it takes a long time stripping the stickers & sticky tape from lots of little boxes whereas bicycle cardboard packaging is great as it's big sheets - presumably supermarket packaging is mostly in small boxes & I guess a lot of it may be colour printed (which we can't use). But good shout on trying supermarkets, cheers, I'll try Morrisons.
  24. We've been making lots of raised beds for our horticulture section and so far have been using sheets of cardboard from the local bike shop ....but can't get enough of it. Now looking at buying a large roll of biodegradable weed matting. Any recommendations? Must be completely biodegradable, ie, not plastic. Cheers, steve
  25. Excellent thing you've done here Steve. Great to see some positive action. Cheers, steve
