  1. Technically it will pull a 28" but really I'd agree it will run way better on a 24" If your wanting to pull bigger bars then you'll have to go to the bigger saws as said the 395 upwards (there only 1 husky bigger and that the 3120 I'm talking new here btw) You won't get a non pro saw to pull a bigger bar (the 365 is a pro saw lol) |Even the 288 won't pull a 36" bar it will a 28" but better on a 26" The 372 won't pull a 36" either (mine pulls a 30" but it ported) An old 2100 or 2101 (the muscle saws) will pull a 36" no probs if ya can pick one of them up. You said your not gonna use it regularly and it for firewood etc then really take 2 swipes. You won't get a saw to pull bigger bars without it being one of the big pro saws and really Husky wise your looking at the 90cc plus class and big money new. Be careful buying a saw stateside it may not be set up to work over here I'm a faller in the states but from here so just pre warning ya that the regs there are different depending where ya buy it lol Also IMO don't buy a saw from the PNW as they will scare the crap outta ya (not being rude)
  2. Not 100% sure there Jon as really not a saw guys like me use really I had a buddy that kinda launched his 560 lol Next time I'm talking to friends stateside I'll ask one of them to poke around and I'll let ya know
  3. could ya tell where I can get a job at 100 bucks an hour tho:lol::lol:
  4. Bro with all due respect you are those saws really are........buy em when they break bin em buy another hence the diy stores sell em Bide ya time and buy either a Husky or a Stihl (I didn't really say that lol) or a Jonsered they will serve ya better and if they break they for the most part fixable
  5. You sure that was the saw and not you after you'd eaten that vindaloo:lol::lol:
  6. Honestly if ya was stateside you'd see em move .......but that cause it a huge market
  7. Hodge bro they won't give a crap buddy as the UK market not a big one ......It not right but that the real world I guess
  8. I got the ideal suggestion for a ground saw................It made by Diston and is tried and tested and will cut all wood.......................It a CROSSCUT BACK SAW lmao..........no electronics no petrol as long as ya file it it won't go tits up lol sorry just my poor sense of humor:blushing:
  9. Bro I get ya trust me I do and the regs over here and tax are nuts .....however that not all down to the UK some comes from those persons in those counries east of here lol
  10. I just said that to him lol but from where he looks on it it does look like a bend over gig......we get that crap all the time stateside and it hard to not think that way
  11. I wasn't having a go at you guys who do know their stuff However I REALLY think the training here is kinda suspect I am sorry but it really is the Swedish/GOL dance and that my friends is the biggest money making scheme going E\asy lift I agree with your 2 posts but the govt here a wee bit diff lol it not like back home where we got both federal ad state trying to stick us uin the ass when we not looking. They a tad more subtle here lol
  12. I'd go for the 365 it got better grunt but just me lol
  13. I agree there are good and bad ......but that the case most places However I would add very few bad fallers stay in work as no one will touch them
  14. I wasn't hitting at you bro lol.......I get you can't teach in a week it really takes years. What I meant in the last bit was if a guy turns up and says he has experience I can tell pretty quickly if that true or not. Hey like you I know what the pressures are and get ya there totally. Maybe it different with me as fallers are at the top off the pile and do get pretty well paid .....least I think we do.... Yeah accidents happen as it is a dangerous game but I'd stick to the second faller way as better than courses cutting corners is dumb no matter where but with proper second faller training ya get faster and don'tcut corners or at least no where your limitations lie. Me if I was presented with a huge old growth I'd be looking for a guy so I could be his second and learn (I have cut big but not the real huge uns) I do get what your saying tho buddy
  15. going on what I've seen since I been back how long will it be before the saw does need a ticket. You guys are gonna have to fall alot of trees to provide the paper for all these tickets there are lol. I wonder if folks don't get em etc if the powers that be will be happy wiping their behinds with plastic toilet paper as there will be no trees felled to make their kitten soft lol
  16. I'd agree with ya there cause after 5 years if ya can't do it and aren't dead then a change of career might be an option rather than refresher
  17. Working in the woods has and will always remain dangerous I agree it is down to professionalism etc but it is also down to who is teaching are they or have they got the necessary to actually impart knowledge or did they learn it on a course sitting on their rears??? Oh I have on several occasions sent folks down the hill cause they weren't safe and have left with blue air behind them and on one occasion my caulk in their ass I really feel the best way teach on the job with a young gun as a second faller then he/she learns using what was bestowed on them at birth.......2 eyes and 2 ears but only one mouth. Tickets they mean jack in the woods They only mean something to the companies that provide them and the insurance companies I'd rather fall with a guy who been doing it than one who has his tickets as within a few mins I'll tell if he can walk the walk
  18. I am not before ya read further calling folks ability on here into question nor demeaning any one on here Can I ask you guys something please........What is all this talk of certificates and refresher training. I ask this because, I stuck my nose into a course It will remain nameless etc. I didn't see the maintenance part (think thats what it's called) but I did see the felling part. The safety angle was good (but I do think and would hope anyone working in the woods would be switched on any way) but and I am making no apologies here the cutting techs and procedure was the biggest load of bollocks I have ever seen. If the powers that be here really think that they are going to improve safety in the woods by teaching that then I really do worry for the industry and if that's what they are expecting you guys to refresh on so help me you guys are in deep brown stuff. I know kids that no more than that and the instructor well I'd send him down the hill with his ass on fire if he ever tried that crap cutting near me. It is the Swedish dance they are teaching and honestly that is the biggest load of crap it is a money making scheme no more. So help me how the hell are they expecting guys that do that crud to go out and fell for a living........................So help me they'll either get killed or they'll take so freaking long to get a stick on the floor they'll get fired. \Safety comes not from a course or some one preaching the gospel ........it comes from experience, common sense and time spent with a faller. Are the powers that be here totally brain dead??? I'd love to seethat freaking instructor actually fall something of a decent size or with a head and side lean crossing the lead .........cause if he had said to me to be a safe distance I'd have booked a freaking plane to Moscow cause I wouldn't want to be any closer .........good grief do you guys actually have any instructors that actually can fall things and have falled commercially??? cause on what I saw I'd have my severe doubts. The only way that things will improve is if folks are given basics then they taught on the job by guys who actually know not think they know cause a piece of paper says so. So help me I'd have stomped that guys ass if I'd actually been a student (I was considering it but not now no freaking way I'd really rather stay alive) sorry for the rant and guys I am not calling any of you experienced guys ability into question in any way.
  19. I meant for taking them down not for selling them

    Camps

Foresters really do most of the cruising these days. There are first growth in the NW but most of it protected. You may get a permit but I'd doubt it. The old growths are massive I've seen a few knocked over when I was a youngster. There are plenty second growth tho, however more and more of that is getting protected too My grandad worked in a logging camp he was built like a bean pole but the strength he had lol. He was born in 1894. I heard a few tales but wish I'd listened more he died when I was still at school. My old man is dead to unfortunately so most of the things they did etc is lost. I know a few of the old timers but they getting thin on the ground now to. The one thing that hasn't changed is it still a dangerous job and always will be.
  21. I'd love to learn the skill of hedgelaying In my mind it an art
