  1. This is not something I have done. I like to "Be in the know". ha! What rigging rope and diameter would you use for light rigging then?
  2. Nice, looks light as a feather. :-)
  3. I do it for rec climbing so won't have loler inspections. But as you say whats money when thats the important bit holding you... :-)
  4. Was having a peak on eBay and came across some friction rope which has been spliced E2E by the vender I believe. They are slightly cheaper. Are they any good/trustworthy?
  5. Annoying! Order came, paid a little extra for Saturday delivery so I could use it tomorrow and Monday. Guess what! I missed the two friction ropes off the list I wanted! Extremely annoyed now.
  6. Definately something I would like to learn, maybe when I get some spare time.
  7. I understand I am a beginner with this compared to some of you chaps, but I was always taught keep it simple. The more items included complicate things and also more things to go wrong.
  8. The helmet colour choice is the most important choice. I have to own up and say I considered Red to begin with but then changed to Black. ha!
  9. I couldn't wait... Hopefully some gear arriving today. Fingers crossed. Cirencester sounds good, I don't mind offering to drive if a few chaps want to come along. I did a spreadsheet too! ha! Geeks!
  10. Found it. I have watched a few videos. There's still nothing like meeting people and learning things though. For other people's reference: Splice Instructions
  11. This happening still or faded out?
  12. This is becoming an addictive hobby, Splicing looks like a good skill to learn in this sport. Who runs good courses? Approx. cost?
  13. Did you get that idea from Simon! Well I have ordered a Petzel Sequoia along with tons of other equipment so hopefully it will arrive tomorrow.
  14. I would of thought you would have to be pretty unlucky to accidently opening all three clips.
  15. APF isn't on this year is it? Isn't it every other year.
  16. There's more than one!! The FJ Jones one. The Arb and Forestry Event 26-27 July 2013 | F R Jones and Son
  17. Morning All! Well first off I would like to say WorcsWuss what a gent. He showed me all his arb equipment and climbing gear. Talked me through everything and it was all thoroughly enjoyable. I even climbed about 10ft (prob not event that) but it was my first tree climb on a harness and rope. It was Fantastic!! I can tell this is going to be an expensive hobby. So, I am torn really as unfortunately there is not an Arb supplies near enough to pop along and look at all the harnesses side by side. (Not a bad thing in the long run I suppose as I would be in there every week buying stuff, queued behind Simon.) So to begin with I thought just splash out and get a treemotion but after speaking to Simon and reading alot of threads, it maybe too much and too big for me as I'm only a skinny chap. I am now considering the Petzel Sequoia as it seems to be a mid-priced harness and have everything I would require. The only thing I'm unsure about is the plastic clips on waist and legs. Any further advice or recommendations would be appreciated.
  18. Who is attending this year? It looks to be a good event and brings lots of enthusiast rec and professional arb's together...
  19. Thank you for advice and conversation last night WorcsWuss. Your a true gentleman for helping.
  20. Wonder what the price will be? I'm currently considering a TreeMotion.
  21. Thanks... Just want to get majority of the equipment purchases correct first time.
  22. Yes you can. The only thing is you pay NI contribution and also NI with the PAYE but then you have security of the employed job so its all swings and round abouts. Plus I usually like it as your usually paying too much tax on the employed job therefore when Self assessment time comes you don't have to find lots of money unless you have earned lots self employed that is.
  23. Based in Worcestershire. Thank you for replying. I love the atmosphere on here, everyone is helpful with advice even with beginners. Other sports and work people are very secretive as not to give anything away. Haven't been able to locate a dedicated arb supplier near myself, just been looking online if I'm honest. I have watched alot of YouTube videos, I'm impressed with the amount of videos available from others, shows that people have a real passion which is great! Would I be right in thinking minimum equipment required; helmet, harness, rope, couple of karabiners, throw line plus weight. I've been looking at the Petzl Navaho Sit Fast but unsure if I should splash out on a TreeMotion (perhaps a little over the top).
