1. Just received my 372 xp back from a good going over by our very own Spud! Really great service that I can't recommend enough. Saw runs great, very happy with the bill. Well worth £20 in postage to and fro. Cheers mate.

550xpg

Let me tell the tale of the 550xp. I bought a new one on 11th Feb this year. Fantastic powerful light wee saw I thought. My plan was to use the 550 as an everyday/thinning saw for the 10-12" spruce thinning job etc. I also have a 372xp with 24" bar for bigger stuff. Perfect pair of saws, you would think. After a few trees dropped, sned and crosscut, it was clear the 550xp had issues. When picking the saw up after stacking the timber, from idle, there was zero throttle response. The saw bogged down and wouldn't take throttle. If you held the trigger in, it would sort itself out and pick up after 5 or 6 seconds. Almost like it was flooded. Bit smelly too. I put the saw into some big timber as per the manual to "tune" the autotune but no better. Back to dealer for diagnostics. New (upgraded) carb fitted and saw returned to me. Nope, still the same. Took it to another dealer for a fresh look. No faults found. Dealers/workshops can't replicate felling trees. They couldn't get the saw to fault. Sent back to original dealer who promptly sent it to Husqvarna UK. Came back with new piston and cylinder fitted under warranty as "there was scoring to the cylinder unrelated to fuel/oil mixture." Still no better. My dealer, who was most helpful throughout, replaced the 550 with another new model. Fault exactly the same. Very poor throttle response from tickover. I was offered a 560xp in it's place and what a saw that is! Fantastic. No issues whatsoever. So, ask me about a 550xp and I will tell you to skip over it and get a 560xp. Slightly heavier but not by much and gets a much better report all round.
4. Splitting 1m long logs for biomass boilers and the lovely view from my office window in the summer!
5. Quick question. Can you run a 242xp on 3/8 chain? Wondered if it may be a bit hard on the wee saw! I have a new 15" 3/8 bar to suit left over from my 254xp and plenty of chain. Also have a dose of sprockets.
6. There is a good looking 42 special saw on ebay at the mo. Same as 242xp I believe?
7. Skyhuck, I could see Haix point if the boots were worn out and obviously ancient but these were mint! The uppers were perfect and like new. There was no wear on the soles. I was not trying it on with them, just want boots to last a bit longer. It looks like they have sat in a store somewhere for a year as the date stamped on them was 2011 and I puchased them 2013. Stephen, I can't remember where they came from. I just googled and bought from the cheapest store. I have called around to see if I could track down the shop but no luck. I am self employed and keep all my receipts but this one has slipped through the net. Maybe burned with the box. Leason learned though!
8. Really disappointed with Haix. Bought a pair of Protector pro boots online last year. Soles have split after occasional use(I don.t wear them everyday). As I no longer have the receipt of purchase, the Haix factory in Germany asked me to send the boots to them for inspection. So, £30 later, they are on their holidays. An email arrives from them telling me to send them the purchase receipt for warranty claim, but as you(and them) already know, I don't have it. So I email them back telling them this. 3 days later, my boots arrive back home untouched! A letter inside stating that the manufacture date on the boots was 2011 so without proof of purchase, NO WARRANTY! So, £230 later and I own a pair of gubbed boots! They could have at least given me the option to pay for them to be resoled! Poor show Haix. Arbortec it is then.........................
9. I am looking for a Husqvarna 242xp chainsaw. Must be in good clean condition as it will be put to work. WHY? Cash waiting.
10. Wanted; Carb from Husqvarna 262xp. Walbro HDA 120. Cash waiting. Please pm
11. Apparently, a 262xp carb will be a straight fit and is a better option? Part number HDA 120 I think. Looking for advice.

254xp carb

I am looking for someone to rebuild a carb from a 254xp. The carb is a Walbro HDA 35B and has a few issues. The saw does not lean off enough on the "H" screw and runs rich/bogs down at top end. I believe there is a valve somewhere on the carb that when worn, leaks fuel past causing the saw to run rich. Is there an expert out there who I could send the carb to for refurb? This is my everyday saw and needs to be good. A fully refurbished carb would be nice!
13. Thanks guys, found some good parts diagrams online and seems I have a saw with a mix match of parts! All sorted now though I could do with a good oil pump. New genuine cost £100. Any alternatives?
14. I am rebuilding a 254xp and have discovered that the oil pump worm drive gear is stripped and split. I think that the oil pump is faulty as it sticks when you turn it by hand, prob knackering the drive gear! I have converted the saw from .325 to 3/8. The new clutch drum has drive teeth to locate the drive gear for the oil pump whereas the old clutch drum has no drive teeth. The oil pump drive gear has slots for the drive teeth to fit in to, driving the oil pump. Question, are the two clutch drums interchangable? Also, how does the clutch drum with NO drive teeth on it turn the oil pump gear??? I am coming up with so many different part numbers for the various parts I need so any help there would be great!! Parts required; Oil pump plastic drive gear 503557801 I think? Oil pump ?? O ring seal 501624301 I think? Thanks in advance!! Serial number of saw is 8500471, year 1998
15. I have for sale 3x Genuine Husky 372xp air filter top covers. These are in very good condition and all 3 have the XP bubble raised decal intact. This decal is not available as a part and does not come from Husqvarna when you buy the top cover. These are ideal if you are restoring a saw or if you just want it to look original. See ebay item number 190842625694 for pictures.
16. Any of Husky 2 series saws. Had 254xp, 266xp, 272xp(prob the best saw ever!), 288xp and now have a posh modern 372xp. Wish I kept the 272.
17. Superwinch Husky is a fantanstic winch. Low maintenance, will pull a house down and work every time. Just change solenoids for an Albright and fit and forget. A wee bit slow but that only comes from competing where speed is key. You can get a used Husky for around £300.
18. I agree with Treebloke. I often use my challenge car to winch timber. Buy a Warn if you can. My last 8274 cost £350 but they rarely come up at this price. Expect to pay around £600 for a good one. Avoid Sh**part winches at all cost. Very poorly made and have plastic bushes everywhere instead of bearings. Motors and electrics are soooo bad. A modern truck with 100amp plus alternator will winch all day long. Long gone are the days of letting electric motors cool down. I often anchor the rear towbar to a tree with a strop and can winch some serious logs. A warn 8274 in good condition will pull 4-5 tons through a snatch block without panting. Check out Hydro electric. They all have Rangers up here in Scotland and most are fitted with front winches. My 90 has been known to winch a very bogged County with loaded timber trailer and also a 40ft timber lorry from a ditch!!
19.
You should recognise my avatar Steve, you did winch bitch for the green challenge 90 some time ago!!

20. I would avoid an Agrover at all cost! They had terrible portal drop boxes at the axle ends that contained chains and suffered from massive amounts of backlash when you took off or changed gear. These chains stretched really quickly and rattled and clunked. Buy a mog!!
21. yeah, have looked into cs30 and 31. Regular courses in my area run by machinery ring etc. Will get on one asap!
22. Paul, Yes, between Forgandenny and dunning. Have often thought about starting up my own business but need to gain experience first! Keep your eyes open for a Unimog in the area! Dave
23. Hi, I am looking for a career change and am posting here for advice! All comments welcome. I am 39 years old and regret not going into forestry when I had the chance some 20 years ago when Countys roamed the land clad with roof mounted cranes and 6 levers to operate!! I have 10 years experience driving both 360 and 180 diggers, 7 years experience as a Land Rover mechanic and a few years driving lorries(have class 2), and a hell of a lot of playing in the woods in between! My father has been a game keeper for over 30 years on the same estate and I have gained masses of experience thinning trees, burning hag, fencing, tractor driving etc. I own, maintain and regularly use my 372XP saw, I am looking for a Unimog at the moment. I am healthy, hard working and live in Perthshire, Scotland. I am looking to get a job with a bit of saw work, tractor work, can help with maintenance and am very capable at driving off road as I have competed at various levels at various modes of off road motor sport over the years. I have had various certificates in the past including digger and first aid but all but HGV and motorbike test have expired! I have no problem in sitting/passing qualifications as nec. I have looked at getting chainsaw certificates but would wait and get appropriate tests for career. So, am fit, hard working and willing to learn. Need to get outdoors as I am being strangled working in a workshop 6 days a week! Happy to work with most machines! Not the best climber in the world. Hobbies, off road winch challenge events, hill walking, outdoors and all things mechanical! Help!!!
