Indeed; 461 much better p/w ratio.
Now in the same dilema myself; 461 or 660/661. I know I can go all day on a 461 happily but mindful of some big sticks on the horizon and want to be able to have everything covered...
Why not both - tool for every occasion!

461 has the better power to weight ratio. The 441 is a fat squidgy and in comparison underpowered lump. 461 every time.441 for me, better power to weight ratio and significantly lower vibration than the 461 -
I remember when flush cutting was all the rage, eeh how fashions change

Nice little machine. . .. .shame about the dodgy snedding & appropriate ppe use

The reason for the appearance of this tree and probably the ones you mention in SE Wales is due to the massive energy input into last years heavy mast year. There are uninfected Ash all over looking like this, it's happened in previous years but I suppose there just under closer observation these days.

It's not ported but as the exhaust is the same as the 46/460 I've fitted the dual port front cover off the Magnum and then tuned to suit. Certainly worth doing for the cost.
Have a look on here for the part number: http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/2062847/ms460-pl-pdf-july-12-2010-9-13-pm-663k?da=y

Also you can run 16" - 32" bars no problem.
-
MS461 and whack a dual port exhaust front cover on for good measure.
-
Yep you can have them instead of the pouch if you like
But let me know just after you order and give me the order number etc... e mail on [email protected] is fine or PM me on here.
Also what size! Am out of 3/16" at the mo...
Sound, thanks for that

No sorry - the offer is as is.
Hmm, was going to ask for a box of save edge files instead!:

Hand weeding! - £500 per day . . ..excl vat

From my understanding (Continental experience) there are no Ash trees 'resistant' to Chalara, as they will all become infected and show some symptoms of dieback. There will be differing levels of tolerance, some individuals having almost none and some having very high levels but this is different to being resistant.
In comparison to Elm, say where there is a healthy mature specimen growing in an area where DED is active, there is a good Beetle population and it is adjacent to dead and dying infected Elms - all which have been the case for a lengthy period - would strongly suggest that it is resistant, as there is no way that Beetles will not have fed on it.

I finally got around to looking at it again and indeed it was the spark arrester blocked as predicted by you two. Much too noisy for our work left out so I burned and blew it clean.
Never having come across them before I'll keep my eye out for this problem. A darn sight easier to fix than taking the frame apart to look at the carb which turns out was a waste of time.
Glad to be of use. From memory with ours I unscrewed the spark arrestor from the exhaust and then cut of the mesh element with a hack saw and then re-fitted. Exactly the same size exhaust opening so should be the same db, just with no screen to get blocked up.

I think the late flushing of the mature (females) trees is due to last years heavy mast using up a lot of their energy reserves. Also due to the mild winter/spring I think many other species had an early bud burst and even fruit forming stage! Which amplifies the late Ash, at least that's the way up North (currently Chalara free).

I,m guessing he needs to hold the chainbrake off, and he,s wearing chav jeans and trainers!
That's the first thing I thought on watching that crap video was Chav jeans! ha ha
Not sure the camera operator is much better standing directly in line with the saw should the chain snap!

Hi Rob - When is the next lot of Sugi bars due in?
-
I did one of these once and there was a spark arrestor in the muffler - if you clean this it may well sort your issues!
I run two of these and they both did the same, you can actually remove the spark arrestor and it'll run fine then.

Aye it's funny how I've bought Stihl saws with no bar and chain too!

I honestly think it would be better if the whole concept of authorised dealerships for chainsaws was scrapped. It appears to be a mechanism of sale which is now obsolete but is being propped up by contorted efforts to preserve convention.
Think about it, what does an authorised dealer actually do (across the board)? Understand the products - no, keep all necessary spares - no, offer convenience - no, provide a rapid and efficient repair service - absolutely not (see earlier comments about warranty repairs going to the back of the queue, an attitude which I find disgraceful in a customer facing business btw).
The dealer does not, in reality, offer an advantage over a truly free market for chainsaws, brushcutters, hedge trimmers etc. As products, they are not exactly complicated. Think how many people buy them from B&Q each year and do not kill themselves or anyone else. There is a sensible way to operate them, and many home users may not follow this in full, but the accident statistics are surprisingly small.
So how would the world look if every business which wanted to could buy from the main manufacturer, but with a minimum annual order value for simplicity for the manufacturer (who is not trying to become the customer facing end) and the price included a portion which covered operation of a central repair facility. Machine fails under warranty, customer takes it, or posts it, back to vendor, who forwards to the central facility. This is how Dyson, Hotpoint and many other consumer end manufacturers work, often with items which cost the same or more.
I could then order at the lowest price I could find, online at my convenience, or go in person to a shop and do a deal, depending on what I felt like. In what way do I, the customer, lose by this?
Continuing to offer a repair service then becomes a straight commercial decision. If you can charge enough to make it worthwhile, do it. Otherwise, no obligations.
I think it is telling that, throughout this and every other related thread, the dealers defend protectionist policy but the customers don't like it. Ultimately, this suggests that the least protectionist supplier will be the one which is listening to its customers and is likely to be rewarded with market share.
Alec
Well said that man:thumbup:

If it needs dealing with immediately then following the advice given here would be your best course of action http://www.trees.org.uk/aa/documents/arb-ac-help/NE-Bat_habitat_assessment_guidance-102010.pdf
The last page I should have said

Firstly you need to consider whether the tree needs to be dealt with immediately in the interests of public safety?
If the answer is no then cordoning off the site, signage and waiting until the the chicks have fledged and the nest is no longer used is the best option. As any action liable to disturb them would require a licence from Natural England.

I wouldn't have such a problem with this bloody policy if my local Stihl dealer was any cop, but they aren't . . ..I once tried ordering some full chisel chain and was told that the only type of chain available was semi chisel (although he didn't even know what that was called).
Last Stihl saw I brought I found the nearest Stihl dealer offering the cheapest price (actually cheaper than Jones) and drove the hour there to pick it up and the benefit to me as a customer of picking it up in person, well I had the manager wearing only pointy shoes and a suit as PPE start it up and rev it for me . .. to, well demonstrae it did so I imagine:confused1: What a load of s***
Sad day in the log world !

What made you go with this supplier and not someone off here? Was it anything to do with cost? If you've paid the going rate then you have my sympathy but if not . ..
