44 every time:thumbup:

Had one for a few days, but not fully run in yet. running 20", will post review when it's done some proper work.

If just for arb ground work then Ms200, MS461, MS660

It's got 0.3 HP more! A muffler mod on the 441 would even that out
The dual port muffler cover off of a 460 fits the 461 so that'd have the 461 ahead again.
Sorry Jamesd I've no experience with current 372. As for m-tronic I've got a 241 with that and it's been fine so far . . . to early to tell really, if and when it does go wrong I can imagine it might be pricey though.
I'd have liked a 461 with heated handles too, but not missed them yet!
No idea on 441 reliability as never owned one only used them, but if you want a good strong saw and you can do without heated handles then 461 no question.
-
The thing i liked about the 441 was it had the choice of heated handles, i know its a bit fussy but would have liked to of had that option with the 461. In an ideal world i would have brought the 461 with heatedhandles.
Does the 441 have a few problems with it then?
The 461 is available in other countries with heated handles but Stihl UK don't offer it for some reason. Unless your going to be running the saw for long periods in cold and/or wet weather then I wouldn't bother with them.
441 is just a different kind of saw you'll either love it or hate type thing. AV's are squishy and it just doesn't feel like the solid power horse that is the 461.
-
Stop it you're getting me all hot and bothered at the mere thought of it:laugh1:
-
461 is a peach of a saw and the choice over the 441. More power and only tad more weight and you can pull a bigger range of bar sizes 16" -32" I think from memory. Shares many parts with tried and tested 460 and is basically an updated revision of that saw. Have had one since Feb and it's been faultless.

Oh God this is has developed into a ridiculous cul de sac of nonsense.
Bloke cuts down big tree, films it, posts it. Errrrr that's it
-
Scotspine1 I think you're missing the point completely, like Steve says that particular tree would have needed a hell of a lot of rigging and lowering to get it down safely (by climbing) due to the extensive targets underneath.
With tree work you should always explore whether there is a method which doesn't involve WAH and take that option if possible.
What is in question, is somebodies judgement who watched that video and thinks climbing is the preferred option when clearly (going on the video - the only evidence available) it isn't.
In addition, not only would climbing be the greater risk (from an operatives point of view) but think how much it'd cost the poor customer for the thing to be dismantled.
-
Out of pure interest. No criticism. Why not climb and just fell a nice clean stem?
Out of pure interest. Have you ever done any tree work, felling etc?

Hi Rob, Have these bars got the replaceable nose, same as the 3/8' picco ones you sell for 200's and alike?

We could go round the houses all night on this . .. I don't mean plunging the thing in the ground so it's dead blunt. The acuter profile of a full chisel cutter is more susceptible to blunting if it contacts anything abrasive, once the point has gone its lost its sharp edge - which makes it the faster cutting chain.
-
-
The difference between full and semi chisel is that full chisel cuts faster but can loose its edge easier and requires greater precision filing whilst semi chisel cuts slower but won't loose its edge as easily and requires less precision with the file. There's nothing says they still cut when damaged.
-
You can run the MS241 on either 3/35" or 3/8"picco chain so that's the anomaly. Picco sizes are 14", 16" & 18" and if your running 3/25" then 13", 15" and 16". I'm personally running 14" picco set up with one of them Sugihara bars and it's a delight - the picco chain has a narrower profile so therefore requires less effort from the saw to pull it through the kerf. Don't forget you'll need to change your sprocket to suit whatever size chain your running eg 3/25 or picco.
On Robs site if you're after 14, 16 etc then just order a bar for an MS200.

STEIN PHANTOM's are good boots for walking. Nice and comfy straight away and light too. They're made by Italian alpine boot co Alico

I'm impressed that he used a smilie in his email, I always think of the Germans as very formal, I'm clearly wrong

All these negative comments, I've had mine 2 years now and from day one was head and shoulders above the old 200. An older guy who works for me just got himself one and moans constantly that its not as good as his 200 but seems fine to me. I think some people just don't want to like them.
Well I really wanted to like it but in terms of engine performance, compared to the 200 it's a poor replacement.

The MS661 is already out in Europe (and has been for a few months now).
I emailed Stihl, this week, enquiring when we'll get it and was their response:
Good Morning
Thank you for your email.
We can advise that the MS661 is due to be launched to the UK marketplace around late October/early November. However the STIHL Product Manager has advised that this date could possibly change as we are waiting for confirmation from Germany.
We trust that this provides a further understanding.
Kind Regards
