  1. My 201's the same - press the throttle hard down straight from tick over and nothing happens, it needs to be feathered into operation like a cold saw.

I've got 3 200's and the 201 is a disappointment in comparison. I'm just hoping it gets into it's stride in the future with more use, has anyone found this to be the case?

  2. Duro (carbide tipped) chain can only be sharpened with a grinder and you'll need the correct disk for such a chain.

Duro chain is worth it for cutting timber with a lot of soil/grit on it (ie skidded lengths, stumps down to ground level) as it won't dull as easily as standard chain, but for any other application I wouldn't bother.

  3. I've used rapeseed oil, both branded chain oil and cooking oil, for over 15 years and have never cooked a bar tip yet nor noticed advanced chain wear. The only downside, as someone has already mentioned, is the resinous build up of oil and sawdust which occurs round the clutch drum, oil pump, chain brake etc. if this isn't cleaned regularly then it can become corrosive over time. The Stihl bio chain oil is supposed to minimize this to some extent, but I've never tried it.

It's hard to believe that folks are still using mineral chain oil considering the negative environmental impact it has being sprayed over soil, flora and water. Not to mention that as a chain saw is running a large proportion of chain oil coming off the chain is vaporized and your just breathing all that in!! + rapeseed oil is cheaper.

  4. The MS461 is in the 2013 catalogue and should be out in UK before end of March 2013, at the very latest. They are out in France already though. I'd wait and get one as they're just an updated version of the well proven 460 just with more power and lower vibe levels and they only weigh a tad more than the 441

  5. I found a pool of chain oil underneath one of my saws and on inspection found that some little feching rodent's nibbled a hole in the chain oil cap - to get access to the veg oil they seem to love!

    Anyone else had this?

  6. I agree. It must me down to Stihl's strange UK marketing policy - the same one that meant the MS192t has never been released here!

I reckon it'll be worth waiting for though, same power to weight ratio as 460, bigger bar capacity, lower vibrations .. . ..
