  2. I am now looking for UA 5 Surveying work I have 17 years climbing experience with a couple of years in Utility. I have got UA1, 2.1 and I just completed UA5. I am based around Sussex , Essex but will consider any area . CV on request or can catch me on 07428161935. Regards Paul Spencer.
  3. Straight away I thought is your boss selling up? Does he have a client list? If you can get his client list you basically have a start for a business. If it is available then you should be offering money for client bank, equipment or his work number for yourself. Hopefully you can get something. Yes you can claim for your truck from a year ago.
  4. Mainly looking for Ground work on a self employed basis around Essex/Suffolk. Anything considered from a few days a week to full time. Although I have 17 years Climbing experience I am just looking for ground work. Im basically waiting for a UA5 course so If I can help you while I wait and earn some money too then send me a pm . If Pushed of course I can climb the odd day also. Regards Paul
  5. If you are coming in Green then your first 2 courses should be Emergency First Aid 1 day course about 70 quid and NPTC Chipper which is 200 ish with assessment. You will get groundwork with these tickets and they are 1 day each, quick, easy and fairly cheap. See if you like the job then go on to Chainsaw cs30/31 . I say this because the chainsaw course is around 700 with assessment which is alot if you find out you hate the job .
  6. Not sure you would get carpel tunnel in such a short frame time unless you increased a problem that was already there. Are you in IT? It is not white finger that takes a long time to develop 10 years +. Its either your hands are not used to the vibration of the saw or you have slight carpal tunnel already. I had carpel tunnel through saws and the pc and I went private and had steroid injections, one on each wrist. That was about 10 years ago and i not had any problems since so its not the end of the world. Failing that a operation which takes 40 mins to an hour and can be done under GA will totally resolve CTS. Copper bracers help alot if your in pain now. Keeping your saw sharp is a must too Hope this helps
  7. Some of the people on here just jump on anything you say its laughable . Since when is working at the weekends moonlighting and suddenly become a ***** lol? Picking up the phone and getting liabilty insurance is hard? I was agreeing with andy for the guy to stay employed.
  8. What andy said. Work as employed but build up your own customers at the weekend and save up money for all the gear and machinery.
  9. Any Climbers employed by these two or has been? I was interested to know what they pay for decent climbers?
  10. As we are on the topic what are those husky 13hp grinders like? Would a secondhand one around the 2k mark be the best bang for buck?
  11. As the title says, loads of experience. Would consider relocating if regular work i.e 3 days a week +.
  12. Well mewp is easier on the body Yes he may love a 084 betwwen his legs)
  13. Climber free for work in Essex willing to travel within reason . CS 30,32,36,37,39. Clean licence with grandfather rights. Many years of experience.
  14. Yea its true you cant tell someone how to do but some genral pointers is good . A picture of the tree with its access would be good. I dont know the climbers experience but 1st crane job and a 130 foot redwood? Its abit much if you ask me. 064 or 084 hanging off your harness trying to spike into soft redwood bark with a huge trunk most of the day? No thanks. I know someone recently done a redwood with mewp and crane . Thats the best route if you got the access.
  15. Personally I would say im not inspecting it if its coming down. 130 Feet? You will bust you balls getting up a redwood that size , they are crap to climb and crap to spike. Get some binoculars and save yourself the hassle and dont tell him . Someone mentioned to get the crane to lift you to the top of the tree when you do it!! Its what i would do on a tree that size if the crane driver will do it . Im not 100% on the legals of it but i thought its not a safe practice procedure? H&S would come down on you and the driver for it so make sure your aware of whos around you when you do it. As for the tree Its all about the weight and what the crane can lift at that height. Taking branches off before the timber is downtime so avoid it . If u have to do the odd one or two as job dependant then so be it. Common sense stuff really now . Dont use felling cuts with a crane just a chogging type cut 90%/ 10% I do and make sure your positioned on every lift so the wood is always going directly up and away from you. Talk to your driver check weights and work out your limits and maximise your lifts. Redwood is pretty light but the branches are heavy as fk . If you got a choice pick the irons with the longest spikes because you will slip alot on redwood bark. GL.
  16. When you are ropping the trunk down you should use a chogging cut and then push it off or let it slide off on its own. Its alot faster than doing a felling cut and then using a wedge and hammer. Your making more work for yourself than needed also because its tough to push wood which has a hinge with the weight of the wood included. I saw you struggling abit on this so I thought I would at least mention it.
  17. Self employed Climber 15 Years experience based in Chelmsford. NPTC Qualified. 20 years in the trade looking for day work. Most things considered although there is work i am not too keen on . I have got 3 firms their Arb association certificate with my work and on a good day I consider myself quicker than most. My Day rate is 130 to 150 pounds. Im basically looking for a day here and there . No full time work. Thanks. Paul.
  18. Rude? Get a grip! 10 to 20 pounds for 15 / 20 small rings is more than a fair price.Thats not seasoned wood or cut up because there for carvings and I also pick them up.
  19. Log rings around Chelmsford area? Looking for Log rings around 8 to 14 inches in diameter and about a 12 to 24 inches in length. I have my own truck so I can come and collect from your yard etc. Not conifer. Looking for about 15 to 20 to start with . Will give u a drink i.e a tenner. Paul 07428161935
